Hey, guys (and gals), Bexter tuned me into this thread a while back. I've edited and uploaded the oki-tenugui pics, and now I've actually gotten around to writing the pages for them. Now, however, I'm having ftp trouble and I can't get them uploaded... =( I'll post back here when I get the problem f...

WWI German helmets were made from a very tough alloy-silicon and high manganase if I remember correctly. I have read that they were hot-formed. Cool process. There's a different one-pic overview in Europaische Helme. It shows all the steps down to finished. I can't seem to upload pics at the moment-...

Well, they're not exactly LOCAL to you, but there's a company in or near Chicago called Intra-national Screw and Bolt Co. They manufacture and sell all kinds of rivets-including brass.

Just for the record, though, I get 90% of my rivets from RJ leahy now.

If you end up having to bolt it down, just use 2 opposite corners and large wingnuts. That will speed up changes considerably. You could also just drill appropriate holes in the bench, set the form on top, and drop pins through the holes in both. It's not as stable, but it changes out very quickly. ...

I don't weld with OA myself, but I remember reading a suggestion a while back-just cut a thin strip from the edge of the same material you used to make your pieces to be welded and use that as your filler rod. That way, you KNOW it's going to be compatible.

If they have mounting holes, I would simply bolt them down-or if you have a nice heavy wooden bench, big lag screws work nicely. It's easy to weld mounting tabs to an oxy cylinder-or just drill holes in the corners of the plate if there's room. I find that with dishing forms (and most similar tools)...

I have a hammer with a slightly domed round face that I like to use to make the 90 degree bend. To keep the piece from flattening out, you need to stretch the outer edge of the metal as you bend it outward. This is easily accomplished by using a hammer like I mention or one with a relatively wide pe...
