Hi, Robin. Jaeger-man alerted me to your post. Sorry about the mail issues. My ISP has periodic spasms of over-zealous spam-blocking. I've had several people tell me lately that their emails to my citynet account bounced. I'll see what I can do about that issue. In the meanwhile, you can use the_mel...

If you haven't ordered them yet, I wouldn't bother with Ashdown or Lacombe. They're severely dated, often inaccurate, and the pics are of poor quality, so you don't even get that. I have the others you mention, and they all have merit, IMO. On a slightly related note, I have some armor books for sal...

I have used quite a few of the Horton Brasses posts for vervelles. I have found that they make fine vervelles, but the brass is a bit on the brittle side as they come from the company. It's helpful to anneal them before you install them. Otherwise, you will have little flakes come off the shanks whe...

I know it seems obvious, but COVER YOUR EYES WITH SAFETY GLASSES! Or goggles better yet. Just a tiny droplet splashing up in your face can make you one miserable &%#@! if it lands in your eye. Taltosh, no problem. Clecos are great handy-dandy for holding pieces for fitting, marking, etc, but you really shouldn't hammer on the steel while they're in place. I find them majorly useful for projects like fitting panels into a spangen top or holding brass trim while I trim/mark/fit it. --------...

Anyone need 3/16" clecos?

Strictly speaking, this is a "for sale" post, but it's only of interest to armorers, and I'm merely passing a deal along-I'm not making any $$ on this transaction. That said, I bought a bunch of supposed "7/32" clecos on ebay for a good price, but they had been mis-labled, and were all actually 3/16...

Which rapier bits, and how are you working the stainless? 308 is pretty rust resistant ordinarily. Offhand, I'd say you might be encountering one or both of 2 common problems. One-if you're using heat to work the metal, the high temp will oxidise the surface of the steel and make it much more prone ...

I find that it's much easier to control and pull up the point of the ridge if the stake has a different shape. A blunted chisel makes it hard to really refine the ridge of the flute. It also tends to chew up the back side of the piece more. Instead, I prefer a shape like this: http://clang.adkinssof...
