I'll plug Swordfoum ;)! yeah thats a good place as well as my Armoury: http://www.myarmoury.com/home.html

I think i recall most reactions to these questions being -dont touch it. Just leave it be and work to prevent further rusting, ect.

I dont feel that Hanwei is a terrible blade for the price. It understandably much lower on the scale than a Del Tin but I personally would choose a Hanwei over a schlager. It actually has blade taper. Guy-- I'm really interested in seeing how those blades handle -I'd love to hear your feedback from ...

Just for refference here are some pics of historical greatswords--the zweihander types. That cold steel one is ok - but it really dosent reflect what these amazing weapons actually were like.

Go for Del Tin! Much better and much more historically accurate. Check out Darkwood:
http://www.darkwoodarmory.com/blades.shtml

Darkwood also has their own brand of blade, but I have not heard of anyone who owns one of these yet.

If you really must have a schlager try here:

If you wanted to go a little later into the mid to late 1500's you could look at the german 3/4th's plate for some armour ideas. Most of Scotlands armour and blades came from Germany so its not uncomon to see nearly identical styles. a suit like this would not be out of place for a sucsesful reaver:...

there were no melee rapier battles. The closest might be a small streetfight. And those arent really prepared for. Rapier and dagger was a mainstay of all the rapier masters. This is not "flourentine" which all ive been able to figure out is a way of making chicken. It has nothing to do with florenc...

clermont has some good ideas. Void to their side and keep moving...limit it to just one weapon in range.

In the battles- yeah you dont belong in the middle of the shield wall. The binding the shaft of the spear and running up on it is a perfect example.

To put it bluntly, the case of rapiers is VASTLY overused in todays groups. The SCA is the only place where I've seen it in frequent use. Also applies to dual weapon use in heavy fighting- this just was NOT a frequent practice. There are a few instances where it is mentioned and a few tips given. Ke...

The manuals almost always talk about displacing or putting aside a blow. Very rarely will you hear about a block or parry with a shield or sword that is a static stoppage. If you do that, you are suddenly vulnerable to a fast twitching cut. If you put it aside you are using the momentum of their blo...

well you arent going to find anything close to that in wester arts. Even a flail or a ball and chain is significantly shorter than that thing. That and the purpose is to go around defences and strike the person- not bind the weapon. Reguardless of the weapon used grappling and dagger is always impor...

thanks for sharing- yeah I was just thinking of the nature of an obsidian chip blade and it pretty much lends to much hacking. Sword and Shield in Aincent Meso-America

Though not really european/medieval in nature, i came across these pictures while doing some research and noticed many guards similar to those used in Euro sword and shield/buckler techniques. An open ward is most common here which lends to the brutal chopping nature of their weapons which consits o...

i think the other part of that is that with a solid hit you armor may not be defeated but you are going to see stars for a second. In that second there is more than enough time to hit an unarmored portion of your body or close and push past your deffence.

it might be good to a celtic/pict/scottish chapter where you firmly state that the kilt did not exist pre-1600. And plaid pajamas dont qualify as accurate either.
