Counted Blows, Sword and Shield event for the HCS at Pennsic

Counted Blows, Sword and Shield event for the HCS at Pennsic I’m considering adding another event to the HCS this year Weapon & Shield with counted blows. I would probably run it on the first Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Anyone interested? There is no appearance requirement for these combats....

From a simple liability standpoint, if we were starting from scratch less is better. The more you require, the more you have to check for. If we were starting from scratch we might consider not requiring anything beyond a helmet. For safety I think society mins minus the kidney protection would be f...

I have used them in the past. What seems to work best is if you can get a relatively full wool that has some stretch to it an then just wrap them around and tuck them into themselves -Cet, who posts on this board uses them with success. My attempts have used safety pins and haven't worked nearly as ...

And on cue : Of course Ebonwolfe, Bloodguard, etc is going to be more effective. Those guys have been putting on armour together for years, are all high caliber fighters, and hit with shock and power. What I have found most remarkable about Bloodguard is that while Duke Andreas has a small pool of ...

The drawback to being left handed is a lot of us plateau at a certain level, because there are smaller number of teachers who can adapt to the difference in shield side. East Kingdom currently uses Society standards for weapons and armour regs (but still uses its own combat conventions). A 7 ½ foot pollarm of either type would be fine. In the 90’s there was a point where 7 ½ foot unpadded polarms were allowed, but only 6 foot padded pollarms were allowe...

No, don’t limit your blow force, but the majority of sword and buckler combats for which we have evidence are unarmoured. The manuals seem to show a single good blow finishes most combats. As to how to structure the combats it depends on your approach. I set up the HCS as a transitional step ...
