Looks like it needs a lot more work, thanks for all the comments. Please keep them coming. The point, I obviously didn’t make clear enough, is to remove "acted wounds" as a default in combat. The "certain number" bit is meant to indicate that you can have any number of including one. Maelgqyn sugg...

Animal, Thank you for the detailed replies. I agree with you that in many ways your combat is probably closer to the flow of pre 1600 foot combat than what occurs most of the time in the SCA. Do you mind if I reference this reply when I discuss experimenting with alternate rules within the SCA? Youâ...

This got addressed a bit more on the other thread but for clarity I keep my questions here. Sorry if this is a lot of questions, but I’m always looking for more information on groups who do full contact combat. Also I’m just addressing when you folks fight each other, not when you come to SCA ev...

Question for Tuchuks
Bedlam, Animal any body else,
How do your typical combat rules differ from standard SCA?
Do you have a rule book somewhere?

That’s interesting, I got a different story when I inquired. According to the story I got, lower leg shots were outlawed on a kingdom by kingdom basis. The last kingdom that had them (Antir I think, it was one of the ones out west), finally got rid of them because folks would be struck on the leg,...

To nit pick Bela, because I know he'll understand. Given the specific connotations of the word tournament within the context of historical study, it might be better to use a term like "non lethal combats", "restricted combats", or even "martial sports" to refer to instances of formal combat where th...

The other source of evidence that needs to be examined is accounts of actual combat. I'm not aware of any accounts that indicate a spear piercing a helm. There are many cases of splinters through an eye slot etc. In order to make a solid case for helms being pierced by spears as anything other than ...

Who fought in tournaments? First let me suggest Barker and Barber’s Tournaments, you can almost always find copies on the used book sites for $20. Its readable and still the definitive work on the subject. Second, precision about what is meant by the term tournament is helpful. In the SCA the term...
