(sorry no spell check on this machine) Neat, I've actually managed to get inderect mention in a BOD rulling. Like Broadway stated grappling is not mentioned in the rules of the tourney. The tourney runs according to the rules of the list of the SCA which allow for different assumed armour. The assum...

Sarnac, You expect me to remember anything after 2 weeks at Pennsic? I'm lucky if I remember my passwords to get into my computer at work after Pennsic. If you remember the fighting at Pennsic you obviously didn't fight enough http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif . But seriously, I'll add it t...

Duke Palymar would certainly have the final say for this Pennsic. But in my experience the interpretation by the marshals at Marshals Point has been no, but the practice on the field has been yes. Basically no one looks for your inspection sticker until you do something “officialâ€

The Historic Combat Series at Pennsic XXXII

The Historic Combat Series at Pennsic XXXII www.historiccombat.org In the interest of providing a venue for those who wish to focus on more authentic forms of tourney and melee combat in the SCA, we created the Historic Combat Series. First offered at Pennsic XXXI, the Historic Combat Series is up a...

Textile Defenses and Arming Clothes – Summary Request.

Let me start this off by saying I’m not an editor on the Archive, but I love making suggestions. Seems like we have had a lot of questions recently about arming clothes and textile defenses lately. Folks want to know what type and weight of fabric to use, what patterns are available for different ...

On one level I think this is a step in a positive direction, but I think Vitus is on the right track. You need to reward good behavior. If someone does the right thing they should be rewarded for it. For example the camping issue, we can adapt an idea from the other reenactment groups and enforce se...

Thanks for the feedback.

Have you sat in one with the legs turned 90 degrees from the first chair. If so, how comfortable was it? I'd think the the seat would have to be fairly small to make it fold, and possibly less comfortable.

14th or 15th century chairs

I’ve realized I’m sadly lacking in furniture, so I’ve been looking a manuscripts to get a feel for what was done. For the 14th century I was aware of the basic x chair shown here: http://www.bnf.fr/enluminures/manuscrits/aman5/i1_0018.htm But I’m intrigued by this: http://www.bnf.fr/enluminu...

Is there a particular item or illumination you base the X chair off of? I'm sadly undereducated with regard to medieval furniture.

Unless the curve is very deep, I don’t think it makes a big difference in what we do (it might make a difference if we were using actual pointed weapons like lances, a curve might make the lance more likely to slip to the side). What are you trying to portray? While less common then strapped heate...

The more I look at combat systems, the more I see them as tied to a time frame and area. One of the things that keeps typical SCA combat mainly a modern sport, is a failure to tie particular instances of its combat to a particular time and area. For instance what is needed to capture the essential e...
