Thanks for the reply and the hints.

The plates aren't my biggest concern, getting the cuts correct on the relatively more expensive shell is. Because of the difference in the behavior of the materials I’m wondering how accurate my cloth pattern is going to be for leather shell.

Kunarch (sp?) COP

I was looking at the Wisby book, and decided I’d like to build an approximation based the Kunarch finds, because I like the plate layout (horizontal plates on the abdomen, vertical plates on the chest). Reading the section on it, I believe that a side closing backing along the line of the Thordema...

Proposed Schedule for the Historic Combat Series

Here is the likely schedule for the HCS at Pennsic this year (you can find descriptions of the events at www.historiccombat.com under last years events). I left Sunday open because the Company of St Michael is supposed to be running a Pas that day. I cut a few events from last year, and am running a...

Gloved half gauntlets. A quality leather glove with nicely done attached heavy cuff, and and a thick piece over the back of the hand. I fellow used to sell them at Pennsic and always seemed to sell out fast. I know I dropped $100 every couple of years for a new pair. I've tried to make them myself, ...

Historic Combat Series at Pennsic

Here is the schedule from last year: http://www.historiccombat.org/pennsicxxxi.html What do folks want for this year? What don’t you want? Is there a better time to run combats? Anyone else want to run an event? I’ve tended to focus on my preferred area’s (i.e. 14th and 15th century western Eu...

I'm not aware of it occuring during the 13th century. Most of the references I've found in the 14th refer to combat at barriers during war situations such as sieges and skirmishes not during a formal deed of arms. The 15th century is when they seem to become common at formal occaisions. I don't have...

Canceled - Tuesday Pass at GW

Due to the circumstances surrounding the major snowstorm that hit the North East in February, I can’t go to GW this year. Unfortunately, this means that the Pass on Tuesday will be canceled.

Hopefully things will run better at Pennsic.

I don’t think it can be reasonably done in a few words. Most of the simply worded rules can be worked around. I’d suggest looking for one that’s fairly clear, and well laid out. Richard’s is a good start when it comes to lay out and style, but it needs to be reworded to conform with the deta...

I use a similar design but instead of running the rope through an eye bolt, I drilled a hole through the 4X4 and simply thread it through.
