Since rugby was invented in the 19th century I guess the author of the piece you read must have been referring to early versions of soccer (football).

A similar alternative is to lace a leather thong through the rings of the coif, just above the brow, and use it as a drawstring to tighten coif - works for me! :)

Definitely Culture/Period. And check what resources are available for it. It can be very frustrating searching for the one or two good books on a Culture that have been oop for years and are rare :sad:

The picture looks reasonable. As for the book and the film - I enjoyed both, but for what they were, and would take neither as historical reference. I enjoyed the film enough to buy the dvd - with the so-called "King Arthur" I managed to sit through about 20 minutes of it before I gave up in disgust...
