My appreciation of it was that a long sword was designed for one-handed use, having a hilt sised for such, a bastard (or hand & a half) for one or two handed use hilt designed for same, and a two-handed or great sword purely for two-handed. The re-enactment bastard sword I used to own certainly coul...

Mind you overall length and blade length sounds more like a bastard sword than a lon sword (38inch blade right?)

IIRC Green cross on black, similar clothing to the Hospitallers. Assuming you were referring to clothing of course! :)

If you can get hold of a copy of Sewards "The Monks of War" this is a great book.

1) where's your SOH?
2) Actually this could prove to be relatively profitable to anyone doing this sort of armour - there's quite a market for it and the stuff that's already out there is generally very over-priced!
3)Just because it's fantasy doesn't mean it's bad.

One of the sites I found a while ago -
http://www.steltercreativewoodworks.com/STELTER1/Urukhai_Armorx.html

ABS but nice - one day I'll try it in steel.
The rest of their stuff is pretty nice as well.

Could pot helm and great helm kits be a bit cheaper? Not so much dishing and no welding, potentially. I know I could cut one myself, but to have one cut a la Halberds would be a) potentially a better end product (if I don't screw it up) and b) Hey - its a Halberds based helm!! Pretty good idea. Also...

New to the SCA but assume 16 SS would be ok. If they can get 14 SS they'll do it for no problem I'd have thought - they're very accomodating!
You'd have to pay extra though! :D

I'd say George. The creature is reptilian - I know dragon enters into the stories of both saints but the is a maiden/princess/female of the opposite sex prominent in the background to the left.

Wood carving - waddaya think?

Not by me! George & the Dragon Bought it at a jumble sale today. Looking at the quality etc I'd say it was a student piece. Still rather like it. I like the rather Middle-eastern/Near-east flavour of the knight. All carved from a single piece of wood. Probably going to ebay, less any of you good fol...

Just a quick idea of the sort of symbolism that you could use, which could also work as an armourers mark (knocked it up quickly so forgive quality) Here we have the symbol for Mars, also symbol for Male (maille) within which is the astrological symbol for Leo (cat). The fact that Mars is the God of...

Review - Armour & Castings helm

What can I say!!?? Absolutely excellent. I couldn't be more pleased. Beathans communication was total throughout the business. Very helpful and very polite. I wanted the 12th century Slavic, but I wanted it blacked - so they added the option to the helm on the site. Ordered and paid for 12th/13th Ma...

Animal - glad the foot is on the mend! Soon have you smiting people again! I will probably end up going for that A-B helm. Unfortunately it's more like 6 months or so before I'm in the USA - can't wait that long, so I'll probably end up forking out for the shipping. Still won't be a bad starter helm...
