So, She - who must be obeyed - says I can have a helm from A&C. Now which one should I go for. I'm thinking probably the Slavonic @ $100, to check it out.
She - who must be obeyed - has a thing for ocular helms, which made the begging easier.

Yah, steel - in either 16 guage or 14 guage. Honestly, for the price, I'm not gonna nit-pick over a few details :) . Have to get money together now! The Slavonic only in 14 guage steel

Also, what about their 12th Slavonic - that looks as if it could be used earlier (or am I grasping at low-priced straws). Might get me one anyway.

And the period/culture is.......

I think this would be fitting for a Volga-Bulgar Cavalryman (12th/13th)or possibly something Turkish or Byzantine. So, put me right! http://armourandcastings.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=53 Nikolskoye is apparently in Kazakhstan (but was only founded in 1826) OR on Bering Island, off Kam...

Don't forget that SCA weapons and Murdocks steel Baton are rounded and thicker than the edge of a steel blade (even rebated) , so the force of the blow is concentrated in a smaller area. Obviously one doesn't put ones whole strength and weight into it - that is not sensible sword play, but it's stil...

Still like this style of helm though - http://www.samarkandia.com/en/produit-2_36.php Now, I know thats a bit late for the period I want (9th - 11th) so, who does helms similar to this that are suitable for a Byzantine or Byzantine...

Try denting a 14 or 16 guage shield boss with your hand!
(It's easier with a weapon! :) )
Full force - as I have fought it would injure or kill without armour.

Greg - your kit would at least be historically accurate in design, if not materials. That.......person....is in no way historically accurate.
