He says 10-14 hours......of course, he doesn't say when those 10 - 14 hours will be........an hour today, another in 3 months, then I'll wait for 4 months and put in 2 hours. Then I'll need to rest.

William the stablehand and Matilda the kitchenmaid didn't have to keep up with changing fashion - I'm pretty certain that a lot of basic clothing didn't change a great deal over the centuries. Fabrics - generally the cheapest or homespun. Colours - mostly natural fabric colours (i.e. rough, plain hom...

It's great fun being a hairy-arsed commoner covered in filth! No worrying about getting expensive kit dirty, no need to use high-faluting speech and.........higher ranks really get miffed when you beat them! (Many of them, if they don't now you, think that because you look like crud that you are new...

I would have to disagree, sorry. There are plenty of period examples showing common people at work The Bayeux tapestry is one. There are others, showing loads of common "poor" people tasks being carried out. Help me out here scholars!

Aaahh.....the old mortification of the flesh routine :) . I can supply you with a very nice leather scourge if you want  (Leather - luxury!, use a thorn-covered branch, it's cheaper! )

I am always quite happy to portray a commoner. Easier and cheaper to get the kit together. Frequently more unique than all the nobility walking around. Also, a filthy beggar, poor cripple or scabby leper persona , complete with begging bowl is a great persona to play at events where the public are a...

Quite possibly interest Torv. What would be the shipping cost to the United Kingdom (2 cds) Also, I think there'd be a market for them over here. Not sure if we have "resale licences" over here. Can you pm me with wholesale prices?
Cheers

Eff, I totally agree that armour counts. I think that the problem is the wording. I mean, define "attempt", it's different things to different people. I'm looking in from the outside here and it just seems to be rather ambiguous. If someone believes that they are within the rules, is it their fault?...

Probably not, and I would agree with you that perhaps such things don't have a place. All I was saying, really, is that the rules would appear to allow such things. You right - Orc attention span not good - if you can't kill it, eat it or violate it (or combination of any of the above) soon lose int...

Mr Hal, for my future consideration, how much would you charge for a pot helm like that, but un-blued and with a nasal instead of visor?

Helms 450 - 550 AD

Any one got any good pics of helms for this period? Preferably British/Northwest Europe. Other place considered. Haven't really found any decent ones
Also patterns for the same or a reasonable armourer (Hal, you got any thing like I might want?)

:) I feel the fact that they wore plate in the film (or pieces of plate at least) will raise a few eyebrows, not to mention hackles, on the archive. If I'm recalling the correct film that is.
Oh well.

Yeah - neck-piece BAD! Little round "nasal" rests on bridge of nose as well, digs in. A knock or blow to noggin could take yer snout off! Also when you do try to put your head back, or if it were pushed back, that grotty nasal-type thing digs in again. You'd be in more danger from your helm than the...

OK - it arrived this morning. I knew I probably wasn't getting a quality item - you get what you pay for (£21 - about $40 or less). So pics attached. The neck guard makes it impossible to look up where it is. Dome is one piece, spun I'd say, looking at the hole in the centre. Some kind of (chrome...
