Mord, you probably know this one...... Favoured by men, I am found far and wide, taken from woods and the heights of the town, From high and from low. During each day bees brought me through the bright sky skillfully home to a shelter. Soon after that I was taken by men and bathed in a tub. Now I b...

What is it my preciousesssss......?

Now, I bought this, personally it has a distinctly Romano-British look to it, but that may be pure ignorance at work. It hasn't arrived yet so I can't give any more details. Anyone shed any light on wether it's a historical replica or imaginary piece. I certainly know it's not a "medieval knights he...

People were closer to the earth, I guess, even kings. A lot of medieval humour is in a similar vein I believe (Chaucer for instance)

grim - bread (or dough) is correct. Your first, is it a needle? Have to think about second. Sir Mord . I know Tolkien was The AS chair. You only have to look at a lot of his place names also, to see the influence. I like riddles, not always good at them though . Come Sir Mord, test our wit! PS - Sma...

Key it is. WHo mentioned Tolkien? It's just a fun Anglo-saxon Riddle. How about.... I'm told a certain object grows in the corner, rises and expands, throws up a crust. A proud wife carried off that boneless wonder, the daughter of a king covered that swollen thing with a cloth. Not Sir Mord He's go...

Favourite period riddles?

Possibly not the right forum, but didn't think it belonged in OT. What are your favourite period riddles? Here's one of my favourite Anglo-Saxon ones........ A strange thing hangs by a mans hip, hidden by a garment. It has a hole in its head. It is stiff and strong and it's firm bearing reaps a rewa...

No high horse, I'm sure the SCA is great fun. My 'real' weapon combats take place using either controlled (pulled) blows or full contact. It's all competitive though, no choreography or telegraphing, the blows are generally controlled just prior to impact. Mmmmmmm....impact.

Frequently, in my early re-enactment days, the only protection apart from period clothing that I wore was gloves. Never got that many injuries apart from the odd bruise.

Actually, a badly made or wielded LARP weapon, can cause a lot of pain. Not usually broken bones but they can take an eye out, bruise and give black eyes. Improperly padded spear broke a rib of mine in a LARP event some years ago. Latex LARP weapons can be akin to being beaten with a rubber hose if ...

What Thomas said!
That reminded me - worked in a galv plant for all of three nights. There's something about the carelessness in some of these places, and the sizzle of molten zinc whistling around your ears that puts you off!

From a re-enactment, rather than SCA pov, I can echo most of the sentiments expressed above. Also adding - "bruised" @ Fighting is fun, especially competitive with live steel. When it's full contact the adrenalin really pumps! Broken bones and scars - got/had a few, dealt out many too. It is my real...

Simple - get some dental alginate ( often called just plain alginate). It's the stuff that comes in the baby foot moulding packs. Get the powdered stuff. You should be able to get it from craft shops or dental suppliers or special effects suppliers (some on the web). Find a large enough plastic cont...

Not sure if this would be SCA grade, but could clean up nicely for other uses. (Not mine, by the way :) just found it)
