As another "me too", I often drop to one knee to lunge under a blow whilst fighting poleaxe. Haven't been told off for it yet. It seems to work reasonably well too, so I'll keep doing it until someone says it's a NO-NO. You can frequently get a good body shot in because of the sudden change of attac...

Over in your neck of the woods, they also have a seperate authorization for 2 wepons along with 2 handed weapons. Some people just don't like to see things "different". I'd ask to see the rules < which I don't remember being in Drachenwald's nor corporate SCA >. Also talk with a more experienced fi...

Castle Combat - Raglan Fair Sept 2005

Just recently returned from the Shire of Myndd Gwyn Raglan Fair, set at Raglan castle. Ao goodly time had by all. Attendedby gentles from various parts of Insulae Draconis, with West Dragoningshire (silent "ing") well represented. The castles fights were great, with fun mini-scenarios. Would be even...

Franky, that's why I advised you to tell THEM to point it out. It doesn't exist, in most likelyhood. Let them get vexed. Unless you mean something that Irish just said above... which might be illegal. I thought you meant holding the handles of two weapons in your hand, and just dropping the spear s...

Just re-read the marshalls handbook and checked the updates - cannot see a no backhand weapon rule. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? I'm getting a little vexed here are you talking a dagger strapped to the back of your hand and when needed you "punch" out with it to strike? THAT is Ille...

Ah yes, but my wrist-strap (or short lanyard) allows me to hold the dagger backhand, with the poleaxe. Surely this satisfies the lanyard rule? Just re-read the marshalls handbook and checked the updates - cannot see a no backhand weapon rule. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? I'm getting ...

Mike, sounds interesting - long way for me to go though Am I alone in believing that the term "Martial Art" is inappropriate in many contexts? I look at what I do (re-enactment, SCA etc) as "Martial Combat". Mind you, many would say that that is correct, as there is little "art" in the way I fight, ...

After 20 years of LARP and Live Steel re-enactment (Including full contact steel), I decided to give this SCA a go. This was despite a large number of re-enactors (steel) badmouthing the SCA. Did I have problems adjusting? Yes - Being mainly used to pulling blows and NOT targetting the head it was a...

I was told, (by experienced fighters, that I respect) that while I can have a stabbing dagger on a wrist-strap (for sneaky deployment) whilst using a poleaxe, I can't have it held whilst holding the poleaxe, in the backhand weapon style that I was used to using in steel re-enactment. The reason give...

I'm familiar with livery coats etc, and with the mistaken identity of the banners. What I'm getting at is, I guess, unless you're familiar with the individual harness, plate armour all looks similar. How could knights etc in full plate tell who was on their side (and the less high-ranking combatants...

Late 15th century field identification.

Okay - I may be looking in the wrong place, or using the wrong search phrases, or being needlessly stupid ( it's been known to happen). Earlier periods have tabards, jupons, surcoats etc as well as shields for identification. I cannot seem to find good info on what was used for personal identificati...

Dang, what was I thinking! Typo-man strikes again, in spades.

Mine should be - Sable, a wolfs head erased or, langued gules, on a chief Or three decrescents gules

The effect is much the same though!

It's all wood and peg. The stretcher between the legs isn't pegged. I believe it's a sort of tongue&groove for the back panel. it's 1500s, looked like oak to me. Made for the last treasurer of Glastonbury Abbey, John Thorne. The Latin reads - "God save him, may the Lord give him peace and so praise God".
