I've fought alot in my turnshoes and have only ever has a problem on super dry grass.. In Normandy in July, the grass was so dry I was able to "speed skate" across the site in my turnshoes... Ended up fighting a few rounds of the tournament in my red chuck taylor high tops... Apparently in...

I tried to contact the Coopers but didnt get any response to my multiple e-mails. I guess the backside of the woods isnt a fighting area, but it has been used multiple times as a staging area for the woods battle.... I honestly dont see the difference.... It's not like the woods has never been used ...

If I just wanted to hang out in 14th cent garb, I wouldnt have asked them... Just like if you wanted to do heavy list at the classic swimming hole, you SHOULD contact them. They are responsible for things running correctly and safley. If they dont think my tourney can be done in that manner, then th...

We'll see what happens.... This may come back from the dead... who knows... FWIW- we had the support of the eastern prince, the mid earl marshal, the last previous earl marshal of the East and many dukes here in the East. The pennsic deputy in charge was fully aware of that. As he said, everyone lik...

I think exceptions should and could be made as long as there were policies in place. Otherwise the society becomes stagnant and bogged down by "thats the way we's always done it" It's not like we were asking to fight in camp. We were asking to fight in an area that already has martial acti...

14th century tourney - dead........

Ok, everyone who I talked to has been enthusiastic and supportive of this tourney. Unfortunatly due to "tradition", it will not be allowed to happen as proposed, that being the saturday before war week, out behind the woods battle woods. They are willing to work with us to find a place on ...

Or... make a cuir boli arm rig and fight behourd style I dont always fight in my 14th century kit in the SCA. I do it when I feel like trying to recreate a medieval experience. C...

I dont think Rhys is trying to say that everyone should be his period, he's saying that correct metal rigs are harder to fight in but dont gain any of the advantages that it would in real life fighting. I think he would be much happier in an armour as worn system. Trust me, it would make a huge diff...

I think it's the final appearance that matters. When I fight as an unarmoured Celt, I NEED to wear stuff under my armour to make sure I dont get really hurt. When did authentic armour become cumbersome? Why are you wearing a 40lb chain shirt when an authentic one weighs around half that? Yeah, 16 ga mild steel vambraces are alot heavier than authentic 18 or 20 ga ones. Yup, close faced visors are alot tougher to fight in, thats why authentic ones are eas...

One note... if you ever use this for jousting.... Have the gauge strap and an upper arm strap instead of a lower arm strap. This will leave your lower arm available to move and steer the horse. Also, have all buckles on the left side of the shield so it's easy for your squires to adjust it Very sexy!

Just to throw a curve ball in the mix...

How do people feel about thrown weapons? That was a very important weapons form for many of the warrior aristocracy in western europe in the earlier periods.

Any problems there?

Would there be less complaints if arrows were held to standard calibration, like a normal sword shot?

As it is, most hit fairly softly and wouldnt be taken if delivered by a sword. I dont have any problem upping the poundage on bows.....

If people really feel like combat archery has no place on the field, why dont they start a petition? Petitions have been done for hard elbows and gorgets. Why not CA?

Myself, I dont have a problem with it... and I get shot with it... ALOT!
