got it
The stainless klappvisor arrived! Good job. My fault for not being clearer on the mounting but I should be able to have that done locally. A little elbow grease and polishing and I'll try and post photos of it on the helm (in a while). hjalmr - I'll ask before I just derail this thread; I have a fig...

Now remembering that I have been gone for a while, there was a big scrap yard between Johnson City and Greenville. This might be them and they are not far from the event site that they use there so much. ???Yankee Salvage 3141 Highway 11 E Telford, TN 37690 (423) 753-9311 North Wilkesboro, NC...

bless their "sneaky" little hearts!
Ladies-in-waiting allow the king/prince to play and maintain some sanity. I did not have to stop armouring up to lace my princess's dress up. I did not have to quit a battle to walk a mile back to camp to start the self lighting charcoal. I did not have to braid cords into favor/award bands. I did n...

HUCKLEBERRY
SO how much for the greaves? And/or legs? Not that I need much more loaner stuff here.....
I'll point this out to a few folks so that you can try and keep it together. I'll be glad to bow out with my passing interest if you find a buyer for it all.

I have one that looks very much like what talbot posted, but without the handle... though the mail is of the same kind of split-rings and same general shape to the patch of mail. An elderly friend of my mother-in-law gave it to me, said that it had been her grandmother's, but thats about all I know...

Thank you all for the research!
Kudos to Talbot for the photos of the potscrubber.
It appears that most of the stories are urban legends though.

Navy pot scrubber mail??
Has anyone heard of the British Navy chopping up old chainmail armor to make pot scrubbers in WWI(?)
Better yet, does anyone have old photos of SCA armour reassembled from these?
It has been almost twenty years since I heard these stories (until someone just reminded me) and never saw it myself.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/af/Saint_Michael_and_the_Dragon.jpg This seems like a very odd portrayal if bucklers were never associated with knights. "When the cartel containing the plan and the conditions had been published, the tenants (iv) would arrive at the location the...

good company
Ringmesh has been a good company to deal with. I have one of their shirts. Very sexy. Fills armpits nicely and provides a little more protection there. My wife keeps stealing it for CA where it seems to provide a fair amount of protection against arrows. Weighs about 5# so once it warms up to body t...

Chainmail solid link question
Given that alternating rows of solid and riveted links were used to make period chainmail; what documentation sources do you all have for how (all) these solid links were made? Especially focusing on earlier period say "vik...

m Did you see the black&white breastplate for sale here? Sort of reminds me of this elaborate pattern. Something that fancy would make nice "Sunday got to war" armour but I couldn't bring myself to practice in it. I am hesitating to try and flute my Landsknecht harness. [img]http://www...

Quick question on subject if not line of conversation:
Does anyone have a picture or link to photo of original "viking age" chainmail?
Hopefully showing how it was fastened and how big the links were.

Alright, they were very well made and fun to use; it would have been a special kind of "ugly" to be hit with one of these maces.

marshalized
You will probably need to add a placate behind the hook-and-eyes at the front closure for fencing but the marshals should like the high collar an gathered short sleeves. Get the book, there are a few other similar coats. Maybe someone here can locate the primary source for this nameless over doublet...

"Armour will defiantly take longer than the outfit, but plans are in the works." I wish I could make my own guarb as easily as armour. I keep beating it with a hammer but it doesn't dish worth anything then is jams up my power shears, and rivets just don't hold it together very well.
