Re: Zoombang V SCA MIn Kidney Protection Data
I would also remind people to remember that this is a MINIMUM standard and that additional rigid material over this standard is recommended.

Re: Zoombang V SCA MIn Kidney Protection Data
My conclusion:
Zoombang Viscoelastic non Newtonian Fluid "padding" as provided in the Maximum Coverage shirt meets and exceeds the equivalency of SCA required minimum Kidney protection.

Zoombang V SCA MIn Kidney Protection Data
OK. I tested the SCA minimum armor standard against the Zoombang Maximum Coverage shirt for Kidney protection. My real-life testing against shots thrown across my kidneys with various weapons found that the Zoombang shirt was equivalent or superior to the SCA minimum standard. I asked the engineers...

Re: question about lacing lamellar for those what know
I think the type of lamellar also contributes to the length needed. I have a full Byzantine-ish coat that goes to my knees. When I was 427 lbs it had 1200 plates and if I remember correectly took about 50 feet of cord per 100 plates. (I am now 260ish and I've taken out hundreds of plates) I have use...

Just curious about the zoombang stuff.. you can still _feel_ the impact, it's just not OWIE with them, right? hell yeah, it hardens up when hit so you feel the hit like a slap instead of a punch. Very surface oriented instead of deep bruising. I got some nice "light brown " bruises from s...

Re: Zoombang Kneepads
Did you do the pointing of the cop to the pads yourself, or do they include holes at the top already? If so, did you do anything special to reinforce it? No, that was a field expedient fix. I had forgotten how I had them attached to my other pads. Master Arnulfs wife was there doing embroidery and ...

Re: FYI new shirt from Zoombang REVIEWED
They received the SCA min Kidney protection and are doing testing.
They are also goingto try and put up a "SCA" page with all the Maximum Coverage stuff on it when their webdesign guy gets off vacation.
It should make it easier to find all the SCA stuff.

Everyone disses this shear but I've been using mine with the original blades for about 10 years.

Just keep it tightened up and go easy.

One of the things I really like about them is that they are really low-profile.
The padding is less than a 1/4" high.
My knees fit great.

Just remember that ifyou want to try weird or new stuffthat's not allowed in the SCA you must first get permission to run an experiment or try it at a private or personal practice that is no way affiliated, sponsored, paid for, or announced, by an SCA event or by an SCA group. Other than that ... ha...

That's the big question.
The fine folks at Zoombang are doing testing on the same leather/neoprene minimum armor that I used for my real-life testing.
When that data comes in I will make a call.

Go to:

Email them and ask for the SCA Maximum Coverage shirt.
Order at least one size larger than you think you need.
They also have Awesome kneepads for SCA and Shorts.

I fought in aluminum knee cops and the new sca maximum coverage kneepads with the strapped back today. No problems, worked awesome. But seriously, ask your KEM.
Getting info here that doesn't come from the guys making the decisions directly can be wrong or just out of date.
Email the KEM's and they'll let you know.

Just a note:
This is a great example of how this whole system works.
The experimental process helps us put out better, and safer, equipment.
Your feedback is very important.
Please tell your KEM's any GOOD or BAD feedback from these tips so we can get alternative tips in the hands of fighters.

Re: Icefalcon 2" Spear Tips are No-Go in Atlantia
IMO, the term "positive force" is terrible. It simply means "more than zero" and is not quantifiable. The "directed touch" standard is clear although subjective enough to let Kingdom Culture (TM, patent pending) have it's effect as well. Some Kingdoms thrust harder than...

Re: Icefalcon 2" Spear Tips are No-Go in Atlantia
It seems like positive pressure would fall somewhere in the range of directed touch to substantially lighter which would allow the kingdoms to use it as a rule if desired, wouldn't it? I think it's misleading. It implies that you can lay the tip on someone and push lightly rather than direct touch ...
