Re: I want to learn more about Polypropylene swords!
Yours is the only one from the hundreds that are out there that this happened to. Either there was a flow line or bubbles in the material or they made a mistake and sent you the wrong material. Luckily it hasn't happened since. There is only one standard of polypropylene rod. No grades, no weird in...

Re: I want to learn more about Polypropylene swords!
So out of honest curiousity (I've no idea how experimental weapons work), how long will these swords be experimental, before they become acceptable for common use? I'm just curious - this is the first experimental weapon phase that I've ever paid closer attention to. Thanks! Depends on the data and...

Re: I want to learn more about Polypropylene swords!
This is the main issue I have with the poly swords. Rattan is easy to see if it's the right material. With the poly it seems the only way for us to check is after it breaks. I fear that the manufacturers or distributers are willing to just send whatever they have on hand to random buyers. I am sure...

Dr. Seuss is not period Actually, other than writing in modern English, he is. His verse forms would easily pass muster with 12th C trouveres. I now return you to your regularly scheduled penis size debate. He came up with his rythym and verse form while on ship from Europe to the US. The ships eng...

Change this paragraph: 3. If the weapon has a head, it shall not be constructed of solely rigid materials. The head shall be firmly and securely attached to the haft. The head shall allow at least a 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) of progressive give between the striking surface and the weapon haft. To this para...

Armour testing should be done at Pennsic, with video. "Now we'll all line up on one side or the other. Heavy hitters on the left and those in experimental armour on the right. Now start fighting!" you first. Okey-dokie. I'm on the heavy hitter side. You're obviously on the experimental si...

Re: Are you worried about being injured when you fight?
Depends on what my Knight said at the last meeting of the Circle. If the rumors are true I might be a little more focused on the low guard, but that has more to do with having 8 kids than any real fear of getting hurt. I wear close to minimums and have never really felt threatened by getting hit to...

I just spoke with Tom at Zoombang.
He said to ask for the "strapped" or "strapped on" kneepads for SCA if you want them with velcro on the back instead of "pull on".

Just a note:
Alan makes nice helmets.
Just never never ever order anything from Alan Baudree directly, you will never see it and he'll take your money.
I think he sells through Icefalcon mostly. Go through him.
The helmet should be legal without a question.

With the one-piece mace rule, I suppose that I could take a 36" long piece of 1.5" thick rattan, shave down the haft - say 8" worth, stick a basket hilt on it, and now I have a "mace" with a a 28" "head" that handles just like a sword except that 1) it doesn'...

Re: Planed sword edges
I was recently asked about the 1/2" penetration rule. I told them to measure how far INTO the helmet it went, not how far from the outside of the helmet it went. That allows consistency from .060" sheet metal helms and .250" bar grills. The face shouldn't be within a 1/2" so it s...

Re: SCA rules question
These are areas where the rules are grey. The knee, being a non-target should not be OVERTLY used to manipulate but ifyou are moving to a good close stance with your opponent and move their shield in the process then you should be able to do so. It should not be the purpose of the move but an incid...

Re: Mass weapon question
It's the answer that answers the question. Different weapons have evolved in different ways and at different speeds. Rules are changed for several reasons. 1. Safety 2. Medievalness (is that a word?) 3. New materials Polearms evolved to what they are after years of use and so have maces. The answer ...

So, going by this, if we find some mutant-giant rattan, say 12-14" diameter..... Plane it down to 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 thick...then CARVE out the handle and blade (including an axe head)..... Now, as long as it's under the weight requirement, it's legal and no padding should be required, yes? as lon...
