Well, I already loose sleep over this stuff, mainly because I worry about not being able to get it right. I loose the most sleep (by far) when it's a project for someone else. But occasionally I loose sleep because I can't keep all of the project ideas from dancing in my head. Apparently there's ple...

Thanks :)

I wish I had more money, but for now I will take the rivets. Do you accept Paypal? Let me know what shipping would be to zip code 43213 and I can get payment sent to you in whatever form you prefer.

Thanks!

David, The shear I'm talking about is a throatless rotary shear made by Woodward Fab. They have some other interesting tools as well, at what seems to be pretty reasonable pricing - at least the last time I checked. Thanks for the get well wishes! I am sorry to hear you have been sick for that long!...

Thank you both for the warnings about the dust. David, you're right. I always put on my goggles when grinding, but I never remember about the dust until afterwards when I realize it's everywhere. What I need to do is put the mask and/or respirator in the same place as the goggles so I don't forget n...

Yes, I am regretting not wearing a mask. I hope I haven't caused myself any respiratory problems by not wearing it. I'm already sick, so I can't tell if it's my cold that's making me feel bad, or if it's the metal dust. Either way, I'm ticked that I don't feel good enough to work on these. :)

Well, to be honest, emailing the guy didn't go too well. The answers I got to my questions were short and really didn't answer them to my satisfaction. However, CALLING the guy was very productive. He seemed pretty friendly and was very helpful. Like I said, the shear does cut, but I honestly couldn...

Yes, I think I see what you mean, but I will certainly practice with a scrap piece first. I have a little bit of steel left from cutting out the piece, so I will use that. It will give me a chance to try out my newly modified 2 LB sledge. (That took all day yesterday, and all the metal dust did noth...

I also have the Woodward Fab rotary shear. It cuts pretty well, but we did have trouble with the gapping at first. The blades kept overlapping, which caused it to just skim over the surface of the metal instead of cutting, but that turned out to be a defective part, so we sent it back to the manufac...

Hammerhand, Thank you very much! Yes the one on the right side (the first one I did) is just slightly warped, although not as bad as it looks in the pics. The one on the left is turned a little more than the other, so the view is a little skewed. Now, when you say hammer on the apex of the arc, is t...

Ok, here is the other knee. They are not identical, and they both need more work, but it's a start. I started to planish them today, but the head of my planishing hammer flew off. It had already been repaired once, and I don't know if it can be fixed again, so I may have to get a new one. Bummer. [i...

Hey, I don't think they're that bad! Trim the pointy piece off the outer part of the ankle, planish, bough, and crease and they will look pretty good! I wouldn't give up on them, that's for sure!

Thanks for the help so far! This will not be for combat of any sort, and it's basically just a project I want to do for the simple reason of seeing if I can do it. Since it's not for combat, the leather strips should be ok right? So if I understand correctly, only a knee cop was used with the splint...

Dalewyn, Thank you for the tips. I don't think I am going to make these any deeper, as they seem to fit my knee ok, but since I really have no idea how they should fit, I may be making a mistake there. If I add lames to it and it ends up not fitting, then I may take them apart and dish them deeper. ...

Clinker, Thank you for the tips! I'm glad you said something about the cuisse coming up to the hip, because one of the few sketches I saw (and was probably going to use) showed a pair that went up that high. I have a question about the knees though. In my limited research, it seems like only a knee ...

I need a splinted leg pattern....

Hey guys, I thought I might try my hand at making some splinted legs (if my knees turn out ok), and I can't seem to find a pattern for the upper thigh part (the cuisse?). Does anyone know of a good tutorial where I could obtain this pattern and some helpful hints on where to attach everything? Thank...
