Need pics of this kind of gorget

Hey guys, Thomas H. posted a pic of a gorget that I thought was really interesting. Here is the pic: I am looking for pics of this type of gorget (with the shoulders), and am especially interested in seeing the inside so I ...

Anton, Thank you for responding. I am not quite sure what you mean. The front half is already seperate from the back half so that it can be put on and then buckled. I am wondering if the chin is what's making it look...not right. I am also wondering if I should get rid of the overlap, or just make t...

gorget prototype #2 - not quite right

Ok, this is the second attempt I have made at making a gorget, and it's not looking quite right. Any suggestions? What if I made the back collar taller to meet up with the front half? (I forgot to account for leather thickness in my cardboard mock up.) It may look better once I get the straps on so ...

Jason, Just FYI, it took me 15 minutes of loading and reloading to get this post to load up for me, so if you respond to this and I don't answer, it's because I can't get on. Ok, well I've got it about halfway done. I kinda sat it aside for a while, but have been working on it again since yesterday....

Eyvandr, I am really sorry to hear about the theft. I am even more sorry to hear that the items had sentimental value as well. While there is nothing I can do to help you recover these items, I CAN offer you maille from my site or a leather gorget. Now, the leather gorget is a piece that I am curren...

Well, I posted some pics of the pieces I had cut out, then it went to that screen that says something like "click here to go to...", then it went like it was going to load the post, but it just kept starting over. I would see the add at the top of the page, then it would start to load again and I wo...

Can't get gorget post to load

Just so you guys know, for some reason I can't get my gorget post to load anymore. If I don't respond to your reply, it's because i can't get it to load, and not because I am being rude. :)

Ok, I got all of the pieces cut, beveled, grooved and sorta sanded. I tried using the jigsaw (since we already had one), but that didn't work. It vibrated the piece too much and it was hard to get it right on the line. (My husband did it, not me) Instead, I used a razor blade and just kept going aro...

I will second the farm supply store if you have one close. At mine, I can get 17 gauge galvy, or 14 gauge galvy. The half mile spool of 14 gauge is like $35, and I think the 1/4 mile is like $17 or $18. I don't remember the price of the 17 guage. TRL sells this, but you will have to pay for shipping...

Ok, before I make modifications, I thought I should show some pics with some measurements. The gorget may look bigger than it actually is in those last pics. Then again, it may still need to be made smaller. Since I'm not sure, here's the pics with a ruler: [img]http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-6...

Jason, I think I may go ahead and do what you suggested. It's much easier to see if anything needs changed when you have a (solid) 3D model to look at and play with. The cardboard is good for figuring out how things look, but doesn't help much when you are trying to figure out how it works. I am a l...

ronnin, Dang, I HAD pics of a suit similar to what you are asking about, but they were lost in The Great PC Crash of 2005. I BELIEVE the direction of the weave was changed (just the outside row that attached to the plates), and the rings were hooked through holes in the plates. I will look around to...

Thomas,
You probably already know this, but a really long needle helps alot. The trick is finding one that doesn't have a huge eye.

Like I said, you probably already knew that, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. :)

Jason, That's a really nice gorget! Thank you for posting the pics! I see where it was flaired out at the edge. I wonder if I can do that with the leather? I think I may give it a try. Here is my revised pattern. I may need to trim the back down a little as it seems kind of wide. [img]http://img.vil...

Will, That is good to know! Thank you for sharing your opinion. I guess the real trick will be to get the bevor part to curl up towards the face enough so that it fits up under the mask/grill. The way the larger bevor sits on top of the smaller support one causes it to point out rather than up, but ...

DeaconGestion, Thank you for sharing those pics! That helps me to see how it will interact with a bar grill, although I realize that it still won't work with every set up. Thanks for the input so far! So you don't think this design is too "off the wall"? On me, the chin part doesn't actually cup my chin since it kind of angles down and away from my face, but with a chinstrap ON, the design may interfere with looking down. I guess it would depend on how thick the leath...

Need input on design of 2nd gorget prototype

Ok, I guess this is kind of a made up design. I wanted it to give the impression of a bevor without having one that was full sized. Please feel free to let me know if this design is too "made up". Ok, here's some pics of the second protoype. I think the bevor part may stick out too far and will interfere with the bar grill, but take a look at it and let me know what you think. Also let me know if you think it's too much of a hodge podge of design elements. [img]http://img.villagephotos.com/p/...

Animal, Does the B and D zip saw have variable speeds? You really don't wanna see me tryin' to use a really fast saw.
