I have somewhat of an update for you guys. The bottom blade of the shear kept slipping out of alignment, and a call to the manufacturer determined that a piece was defective. He told me to send the piece back and he would replace it, so as soon as I get the new piece and get it tested, I will post t...

Allright, I realize you "tool guys" are gonna laugh and call me a "silly girl", but I'm gonna ask this question anyway. What is the difference between this machine and a belt sander? I'm sure it must have advantages considering the cost of that machine versus the cost of a belt sander, but what are ...

I have some photos of Eastern maille and plates armour that kind of sounds like what you are talking about. It has overlapping plates on the front, back, and shoulders that are connected to maille. I am out of space on my picture hosting site so I can't post them here, but if you send me an email I ...

I only do one at a time also. I begin the project that is next in my queue and work it until it's finished. Then I move to the next one. This way I can completely focus on that project, and not have to be worrying about several at a time. You see, I have a teeny brain...filled with lots of air....Do...

I feel your pain. I have 4 cats and they all INSIST on attacking the towell when I try to clean the table to get ready to work. Then, if I leave anything laying on the table, they feel it's their duty to lay on it to keep it from "floating away". I wonder if angora maille would sell? Hmmm... Oh, and...

Thank you all for all of the ideas! Gwydion, thank you very much for your offer. I live in Columbus, and if I had more time, I think that would be a perfect solution. Unfortunately, she didn't give me much notice and I don't have time to come out there this weekend. I really don't even know if I wil...

We're talkin' Freshman in high school. They always do this to me. "Hey mom, I need $175 tomorrow for cheerleading", or "Hey mom, I need to buy some things for a school project that's due...tomorrow" (and she tells me at 10 o'clock at night). They just can't see that not everything can be accomplishe...

Thank you guys so much for the suggestions so far! I think I have given up on tapering steel rods as they would probably be considered dangerous. I may still dish out a couple of hilts, but will have to think about how to attach them so that THEY are not dangerous. I have some epoxy I could use to a...

You know, I actually though about doing something similar to what you described. I may end up doing that, I just wanted it to have a semi-real look. Her teacher actually told her she could bring in the swords I have. Isn't that insane?? They're not "sharpened", but there is a bit of an edge on them ...

Need help for Romeo and Juliet play
Hey everybody, So my daughter comes to me today and says "Guess what? We're doing Romeo and Juliet and I told them you had maille and some swords we could use!" I was thinking "Gee, thanks", but I said "Ok, but what I have is from the wrong time period. When do you need it?" She says "Monday." I don...

I got a piece of 14 gauge mild today and tried to run it through, but we had some problems. It cut great for a few inches, then the blades slipped out of alignment and it quit cutting. There is alot of play in the lower blade, even when it's tightened down. The blade is part of a steel shaft, which ...

Hello all, I just wanted to post a review about the great items I just got from AaronT here on the archive. First, is a bracelet he made me. It's a saltwater etched design, and it looks GREAT! Uilleag, Very nice work! I just love hand tooled leather and you do it so beautifully. If I ever get any money (that I don't need to spend on tools and supplies), I would like to talk to you about a leather organizer cover. Do you do those? I'm not in the SCA, so I don't need armour, but I have been...

Thanks for all of the advice so far. Maybe I will get some 14 gauge and try it. If it won't cut 1/8" thick, so be it I guess, but if it doesn't cut 14 gauge very well I don't know if it would be worth the money in the long run. Eventually I plan to work with 14 G, so it may be worth it to send it ba...

Robert, What was the thickest gauge you cut with yours? Could you still cut, say, 14 gauge mild rather easily? What about cutting curves in 14 gauge? If it's rated for up to 1/8" (which I'm guessing is for mild steel), I wonder if you could cut 14 gauge stainless? If I were to cut lots of the heavie...

Well, it just cut right through 16 gauge stainless, but when I began the curve (which actually went really smoothly) the blades gapped. The cut was very clean with no burrs and no warping, but it was only a few inches long. My hubby had to go to the store, so I will have him fix it when he gets back...

My new toy - rotary shear
Hey all, I should have asked you guys about this before I bought it, but I clicked "buy it now" before I could stop myself. This is a ratchet handled rotary shear that will cut up to 1/8" thick steel (or so they say), and it weighs about 55 pounds if I remember correctly. I haven't tried it out yet,...

Klaus, Did I send you my address? If not, let me know. Also, if you have one that the rust won't come off of, I can take that one. I'm just getting this to put on my visor (when it's done) as a finishing touch, and since my visor won't actually be used, rust on the hinge won't hurt a thing. Cat Ps. ...

Smarty pants Honestly though if they saw someone out on the field with this, along with a bunch of other guys/gals with armour and swords, do you think they would say "Hey, let's go get that guy..he's infringing on our rights". Or do you think they would say "Ummmm..let's just pretend we didn't see ...
