Well I'm afraid that there's no way she will believe they're fake. It's been a long time since I looked at them, but I think they still have the head and feet, and you can tell it's real fur/skin. The ones I have are small, too - smaller than those ebay ones. And I've had them for about a decade. I ...

Halberd's and Zweihammer both have kits. Hal has tool kits also. You may also want to talk to Cet, as I believe he has "rough" parts you can buy fairly cheaply and finish them yourself. It can be a great help having a shaped piece in your hands for study. When you go to make your own, you ...

If you need to translate some info that's in German or another language you can't speak, you can copy it and paste it into BableFish. Or, if you run into a situation like I did (website written in Russian that I had no hope of navigating on my own), maybe try asking around for someone who speaks the...

While I don't know much of anything about period armour, or the difference between metals, I have discovered some things recently about the difference in working with brass vs. working with steel. The brass rod that I was using to make buckles would snap if I worked it too much, while the steel will...

I haven't tried the electro etch method, so I can't answer that question. But I did have success using ferric chloride for my stainless, and I left it in for about 8 hours. I think the temp outside was about 80 degrees, but I can't remember exactly. I had to use duct tape as the resist because the s...

I also use a drill for the thick stuff. You could drill the holes before or after - whatever fits your needs the best. You can even use a drill for edge - flesh stitching if you're really careful. I HIGHLY suggest practicing the edge-flesh drilling on a scrap piece first, as you have to be sure to g...

Nope - on both accounts. :) I will have to think about the first one some more....I may change my mind. ;)

Hopefully he will see this and respond, as I would like to get this going. Effingham already has the design worked up, so I would just need to get the account going.

The problem I've found with WD40 is that it always seems to leave a greasy nasty residue that just keeps oozing out onto your hands/clothes, and never seems to stop. Did you end up with the same problem?

Ferric chloride will work on stainless too, but it takes about 8 hours. When using ferric chloride for etching stainless, I use duct tape as the resist. When using it to etch brass or mild steel, I use sharpie marker as a resist.

Yes! That's it. Who's site is that? The design is very similar to what Effingham came up with - except I don't think his had the background.

I hope that site's still active, 'cause I'm ordering a shirt!

FS: Prototype Pouch - SOLD Pending

I am in the process of working on a new pattern, and this pouch is a prototype. The pattern will undergo some changes, but for now I am offering this one for sale. This is made from 6/7 ounce veg tan, and is dyed Cordovan brown (a deep, rich brown). It has been finished with neatsfoot oil, and has h...

Personally, I like the texture but I can see what he means.

You could try etching next time. Maybe draw a viney-leafy design around the bar and on the latch handle and soak it in ferric chloride to etch it.

Either way, I still think it looks awesome!
