You can also try Leather Balm with Atom Wax. I LOVE that finish. It doesn't soften up the leather, and it leaves a nice, satiny glow once burnished. (burnish with a cloth once dry) I also use Future floor polish on the insides of some of my hardened pieces. (It's an acrylic based finish.) I don't li...

Now filling queue slots...Only one slot left

Thanks to shamrock armoury's superb idea of filling slots for a future date (I'm stupid and didn't think of that), I am now filling slots for orders, to begin around Feb. 21st. PLEASE READ: All measurements and other requested info are due one week from the date requested. If I do not receive your i...

My god, why didn't I think of that? (openings for...."insert future date here") It seems like such a simple thing to think of, and makes so much sense, yet I failed to think of it. Thank you for this idea! (although it wasn't intentional) I feel really stupid now. My situation is confusing...

Boza,
Excellent process!

I'm confused though and don't think it will work for me.

If the wife can't be there, and I AM the wife, how do I get it in the oven?

I'm not sure I understand the lost wax process. I should probably look it up. I wish I had the money to buy this, because I sure would love to be able to cast.

You can try Perma Blue (I think that's what it's called). It's sold in gun shops for blueing guns. I've done an aventail with it, which was galvy to begin with (like yours). I stripped the galvy off in vinegar, and then applied the perma blue (several coats). As I remember, the color came out a dark...

Casting machine on sale at Otto Frei

While I'm not entirely sure what you are supposed to cast in this, it looked like a good deal so I thought I would post it in case someone was interested.

Oh, and one more thing - did you seal the grain side before you applied the silicone? If not, maybe try sealing it with different stuff to see if something might keep that silicone from leeching through.

I don't know about pouring that stuff in there. To me, it looks like the silicone stuff you use on your bathtub, which is really thick. It may have to be brushed on, and I'm guessing it doesn't smooth out very easily. Maybe you could use a cake knife? You know, the wide ones they use to smooth out t...

Kilkenny, I like those and think you did a very nice job! My thoughts on pricing: What people are willing to pay and what people are willing to do the work for are often very different things. For me, I got sick of working for peanuts and have raised my prices so that I can earn a decent ( yet less ...

Chef, Thank you for asking! She's in pain, but hopefully it will turn out ok. She has back problems already, and is currently being treated for that, so I'm sure it REALLY hurts now. Thanks. It's made from 6/7 ounce leather (about an 1/8" thick), and it was water hardened and dried around a form. It has been treated with a wax based sealer on the outside, and has been glued up on the inside to hold the insert in place. It's really cold out, but I will get outside in a bit a...

FS: 15th cent. Tooled leather document case PRICE REDUCED

This is another prototype of an item I will be adding to my site. This was based off of a 15th century example. This is a hardened leather document case, with an eagle tooled on the front. Hand sewn with waxed thread. Dimensions: Total height: ~9" Outside diameter: ~2.5" Inside diameter: ~...

HEY!!!! I tried to do a behind the scenes stat counter, and now I have a "Take a look at this" sign right below the counter (making it even MORE obvious). :x :x

Grrrr....I did the automatic code adding thing...maybe I need to try adding the code manually.

I hate webstuff.

Thank you very much. I don't like the fact that the page is not very wide, but I can't change the template. They do not have very many templates that would be appropriate, so I'm kinda stuck there. Website redesign

Since I'm going to have new products, I figured I should redesign my website as well.

http://www.freewebs.com/catherinesquest/index.htm

Feel free to check it out to get a preview of what will be offered (and what won't).

I am currently working on a couple new things, and I will add those when I can.

Thanks,

With as much interest as this seems to have gotten, I WILL be offering these for sale. I had a target price in mind, and that bid of $55 comes close, which put me in a predicament. I could let the auction run it's course and risk going over my target amount, but that would leave me with either raisi...

Well fellas, with a bid of $55, unless there are any objections I think I am going to call the auction and declare McTavish the winner. Michael,
I'm REALLY sorry! I had looked around, and hadn't seen any of these for sale, so I jumped on it. You should still make yours though. You will LOVE how they look in person!
