Re: Roman Dice Tower?

Two last little updates about this. 1) I can't find my files. They may be on the broken Toshiba in which case I'll eventually recover them. But since I got contacted by someone who can do laser/water cutting I don't want to wait that long. So I'm going to re-create the files. Which is actually prett...

Gotta love the German obsession with games. http://www.ole-hendrik-design.de/der-kuenstler/requisiten-fuer-zdf-terra-x/ This site has another re-construction of the tower. Two baffles. This google book link has a nice picture of the tower. I believe the original only had two baffles. I've been looki...

Re: Roman Dice Tower?

I believe that a nicely done, laser cut tower with Gothic tracery would be a salable item. Mac I agree. The laser I have access to won't cut metal. The plasma cutter I have access to will cut metal, but it won't handle the finer details and I think it would take hours to clean off the slag from the...

So, looking at Edgar's reconstruction, I see that he has one baffle and then the exit stairs. http://members.chello.at/preinfalk/index/edgar/WT/lot3.jpg But, when I look at this image of the Bonn tower I think I am seeing two baffles. I see a baffle directly behind "HOSTIS", the rivets of which are...

Re: Roman Dice Tower?

My wife saw one of these about a year ago and demanded I make them. I made a design and made a test piece using the laser and some cardboard but I couldn't get the plasma cutter to do a decent job on the details. I shopped around for quotes from waterjet places but never got any responses. If I can ...

Re: Backgammon/Tables Games rulebook

Do you have any interest in later period tables games? Some years ago, I did reconstructions of a few Elizabethan period games using the rules described in Cotton's Compleate Gamester and Francis Willughby's A Volume of Plaies (both Restoration period, but the games are attested to earlier). Shoot ...

Quality control, aka my lovely wife, insisted upon some changes. I re-drew the example boards to make them easier to read (square rather than triangular points, thinner lines, actual black pieces rather than the confusing crosses, added arrows to indicate direction of play). I re-wrote the rules to ...

I've done the five of polo-sticks (above)... So, what distinguishes this as a five? Is that a stylized numeral? Numbers and card backs (designs on the back of the card) are all Renaissance or later innovations introduced in Europe (so far as I can tell). You are expected to know the number the card...

Re: hi-temp silicone for tin casting?

With Mold Max you mix your two liquids, you de-gas in the vacuum chamber, and then you pour. No need to keep it in a vacuum while the mold is curing. Some people try to overcome the bubble issue by pouring their mix into the mold box from a height (several feet above the box) and pouring to one side...

A quick and dirty *possible* fix for your issue is to hold the mold about 30 degrees off vertical (face down, back up) when you pour the metal. But, with soapstone molds, pre-heating the mold and heating your metal to a higher temperature are the way to go. You're using a propane torch to melt the m...
