Re: Soapstone Pewter Casting
Have you tried putting some talcum powder in a sock and using this to dust the mold? I'm told the talc acts a sort of flux to encourage the metal to flow. I don't know about that, but when I'm casting medallions I know that a powdered mold out performs an un-powdered mold. I give the mold two quick ...

The Scholastic Method in I.33
One of the complaints people have about I.33 is the lack of organization. It appears to jump around and this makes studying the document difficult. I propose that I.33 uses the Scholastic Method to organize itself and instruct the student. In doing so the document rises above being a simple catalog ...

Re: Online Intro to I.33 sword and buckler
Having reviewed the video I think the bluetooth headset is a failure. It was uncomfortable, it wouldn't work under a mask (I tried before-hand), it didn't work well at the distance I needed it to work at. Maybe a wireless headset? Suggestions would be appreciated.

Fiore dei Liberi. Look it up. Wicktenauer is your best starting point, I feel.
Medieval fighting systems were very well developed, very sophisticated and easily on par with the living traditions of the Eastern martial arts.

What types of merc's were on the English side of Agincourt? Also what sorts of gear was common ie: weapons, armor etc. Thanks. You may not realize it, but that's a huge question. How are we defining mercenaries? By the time of the battle of Agincourt it was commonplace for noblemen to raise companie...

I want to start by stating that we should continue the conversation. That being said, apparently the wrong document got published. Madus are not going to be illegal by name. Steve, There were Indians, Africans, Persians and others living in Europe during our time period. Notably in Spain and Italy. Re: Madu blow up?
I'm not a fan of the madu. But why the hell was it necessary to rain on someone else's parade in this fashion? Don't like madus? Run an event at which madus are not allowed. Or are we not allowed to do that because it would be excluding people? Banning something at the Society level, for what amount...

Very exciting find. New to me. Mandragorias, seu Historia Shahiludi.... This document was written in the 17th Century by an Oxford Don, Thomas Hyde. Competitive freeplay? Forbidden, don't even think about it or the Marshallate (at the Society level, most of the Kingdom and local marshals I've met have been cool) will fall upon you like a six inch thick piece of rattan. It's easy to say we should just allow something, it's harder to actually implement in a responsible fashion. Okay, so as long as it is under the MOAS it is an okay activity. We just can't allow this to be another form of martial activity at events? What, exactly, does our insurance say about this? What about a demo at SCA events conducted by those parties interested? I saw a post on the archives not too long ago about a Viking wrestling technique that looked really fun. Re: Wood species for clear finished furniture
Correct me if I'm wrong, but unless you're sourcing wood from Europe ALL of the woods you're working with will be new world. American White Oak is not the same as European White Oak, for example. Neither is walnut or poplar. And poplar, European Poplar, was used in furniture construction in the Medi...
