France vs. Belarus now.

Belarus for the win. 17-0. France only had 20 men to take the field so Belarus dropped a man to make the sides equal at 20 each.

Re: Body before the weapon, or weapon before the body on eng

Two points: -'Moving the body' is unclear. The body moves the sword, yet the body may move the sword without changing position. Further, in thinking of the sword as having defensive capabilities, we might consider that moving the body, while keeping the sword between our opponent and us, is true to ...

Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav

I disagree. Cut and Thrust is there. After looking at the Society level rules I conclude that there is absolutely nothing to stop two participants, armoured cap-a-pie, taking two Hanwei Practical Longsword trainers in hand and whaling on each other at whatever force levels they find acceptable. Is ...

Re: Going Sinister

Take a tennis ball. Throw it against a wall. Catch it. Left-handed.

Add a target on the wall. Hit the target with the ball. Catch it on the rebound.

Write left-handed.

These things all build neural connections that will allow you to transition to fighting left-handed better.

Re: Pewter girdle fittings as 'false work' in C14th London

Getting off topic, but I suspect there's more than just 'consumer protection' at work here. It's my impression the medievals were big believers in appearance being substance. False work was not just a seller trying to cheat a customer, it could be customers trying to cheat society by dressing above ...

Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav

Interjecting - At the ranges everyone is talking about fighting at (putting your buckler on their sword) the surviving period documentation counsels out and out grappling. Just another example of how you can't simply plug historic documentation into SCA fighting and play. EDIT - Actually, this isn'...

Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav

Two additional points: 1) If you want to do period sword and buckler techniques - They are fencing. You MUST have a thrusting tip. 2) If anyone ever adopts the underarm guard against you - STAB THEM IN THE FACE, FAST! In fact, if they are in a sword back guard, stab them in the face. It will force t...

Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav

The period sources are not a good match for SCA fighting if you're going with a 'plug and play' attitude. That is to say: you can't take most of the period material and just plug it into SCA heavy fighting. The sole exception is greatsword. In sword and buckler the divergence is caused by the fact t...

I.33 Class in Denver

Some more examples of I.33 fun. These were analyses I put together years ago as part of my study. They're full of mistakes (see the last sentence re: 'study') and they show how you can organize I.33 to make it more comprehensible. They don't answer the question: Why wasn't I.33 organized in this fas...

Re: Quillions with thrusting tips on a great sword

Legal? Hows about if you hold it in the so called christian style and punch with it? I made some folks very sad with such a thing ( quillions constructed from rattan and appropriatly padded) this week and there was some debate on this issue. So long as your quillions are constructed as legal thrust...

A note. When I say that in 4a red-shirt does the change of sword improperly, I am not saying that Roland has provided us with incorrect information. That exact sequence (3b-4a-4b) is illustrated on pages 60-61 of the manuscript.

And the rest of the sequence is on pages 33-35 of the manuscript.
