Embossing
Looking at Fashion in the Age of the Black Prince and they've got a picture of an embossing block used to make bezants. My question: how? Searching here and on the internet in general it seems like they would have carved the negative into the block, placed the metal on top, put a layer of leather on...

Re: Removable visor attachment
Jester, this really isn't meant as one of those 'state something obvious in a sarcastic manner' ... but, don't you just need to make a hinge that stays on the bascinet through a pivoting rivet and a series of corresponding ones on the visors that can be swapped out easily with a drop in pin? If you...

Removable visor attachment
My search-fu has failed me. I need to modify my bascinet to be able to switch out visors so I can have a close-face, grille, and perf-plate. I've been looking at the designs out there but can't quite figure it out. Am I just going to have to buy a pre-made system from Revival?

What's the intent? If you're learning a new technique you go slowly. If you're practicing a new technique you've learned you speed up the practice, while maintaining form, in order to build muscle memory. Crawl, walk, run.

Re: Sword & Company Review Needed
I was always led to believe blocking with the flat was the one and only proper way to block with a blade but that blocking at all with a blade should be avoided if at all possible. If I've read this correctly it ignores the dictates of every manuscript I've ever seen. With the exception of hakensch...

Word of mouth still works. Where do they live and what do they want to learn? Not all schools are a match. I helped found one here in Denver and the majority of the students wanted to take it in a different direction than I did so I'm back to doing independent studies. :) Sometimes that's the way th...

Function, not construction.
In the Middle Ages objects were named for their functions rather than for their construction. E.G. A person who commands a body of men may be called a Captain. E.G. A garment intended to be worn on the outside of your clothing is a cotte. The same garment worn under another layer is a shirt. This cl...

Christianity had an internal debate on slavery from the very beginning and while it is mostly settled now there are still a few die-hards arguing the pro-slavery end of mattters. The math involved in pre-railroad logistics is fascinating. Once you start looking at the supplies required to maintain an army and the methods available for transporting those supplies you start to develop a real appreciation for medieval strategy and military performance. And the Roman genius for ...

BdeB is not for everyone. Do not use if you have high blood pressure, arthritis, mange, or gonorrhea. Talk to your doctor before using BdeB. May cause swelling, blackouts, depression, or rectal bleeding. If you experience an erection lasting more than four hours seek immediate medical attention.

Smooth is fast. I subscribe to that (while recognizing that I am neither). But I think that misses the layers. In fighting you practice individual skills and you struggle with each of those skills and you improve in them. Painfully. And then you go out to fight and forget all the details and just mo...
