... but I didn't write the rules and I've given up on trying to understand the reasoning behind them. I can't talk about every rule, the the reasoning behind this one is pretty basic: If you can get it inside a helmet it is illegal. Re: 3D printing of armor?
The biggest hurdle is not the printer, it's user friendly design software. When someone develops a 3D Photoshop, everything's going to change. Google Sketchup is already there, albeit it needs some additional functionality built in. I've started working with 3D software in conjunction with CNC mill...

Re: If noone gets hurt, we arent doing it right
Jester, did you read the question I was responding to? Signo asked why we would think hitting hard was period. I answered that question. I did read it and I think that comparing archaeological evidence from Wisby, a life and death medieval battle, to a deed of arms, medieval or modern, is an apples...

Re: If noone gets hurt, we arent doing it right
I know that this is your game and I should not bother, but on the base of what, do you think that hitting hard is period? mm.. dunno. Maybe archaeological evidence, such as the Wisby remains? Could be mistaken, but I think some of those bodies and their gear show evidence of having been hit with so...

2) The outgoing MotS stated he was trying to get the Marshal's Handbook updated with all the latest information sometime before February (as I recall) of this year.

Although it's still a point of debate, I believe that many of the techniques from the bind which are depicted in I.33 are push-cuts, schnitts, or stramazzoni.

Re: SCA Heavy Combat's Inherent Problem
1) Mixed expectations. When you've got guys who think they're on a battlefield in the 9th Century facing off against guys who think they're on a tourney field in the 16th Century you get miscommunication AND you don't get a clear set of rules across the board. Jousters, BOTN, and others have a more ...

Re: WMA Classes at the Higgins Armory Museum!
Even if you never use any of Fiore's techniques, the class is still very useful. It provides you with a framework for understanding and analyzing sword combat. You can then take this framework and apply it to your own collection of fighting techniques. All but the most advanced fighters will gain so...

That may not be the back of the falchion; it may be the intended cutting edge. m Notice in all of those examples, the fuller is opposite the cutting edge. Re: Synthetic wasters and SCA C&T
I believe you are misunderstanding. Per the MotS (Marshal of the Society, there's no such thing as a SEM) if it isn't permitted, it's forbidden. Per the the rules regarding Historical Combat Studies, no freeplay/sparring is allowed; only scripted drills or slow work. I'm not a marshal and I don't pl...

Re: Looking for info about non standered weapons?
Sir Omarad, 1) Looking through the rules I see the provisions regarding offensive shields have been removed. The only rule I find regarding shields is Rule 10 of Section B (Behavior on the Field) which prohibits striking an opponent with a shield. Is this the rule you are enforcing in this case? 2) ...

Re: Entire Town involved in 14th century Reenactment!
Many of the smaller Spanish towns have similar traditions. They even have websites with information about how to dress properly. Funnily enough, images of James B appear frequently on one of them. I think the fact that they are all aiming at one particular period aids their depictions. It also doesn...

Batons.. no. Maces with defined heads that fall within the "mass weapon" category... yes. I'm not taking the field so there's no imminent threat, but I fail to see how batons differ from maces. The kolben are a specific variety of baton. Batons were used to simulate sword in medieval comb...

Re: Mass Weapons?
Back in 2004 I asked about doing a tournament with batons. I defined batons as: sticks of rattan, wrapped with tape, with no marked edge. The KEM was prepared to allow it. The MotS wasn't. Just trying to make sure I have a basic understanding of the rules before I go to the bother of bothering the K...
