Wulfe: I understand. Now, let me show you my case. I'm going to e-mail Admiral Steel, and if they aren't open on Saturday, I'd like to get this all set by noon on Thursday. I extended the deadline expressly for Ugo, and called Admiral Steel at 4:57, and they closed at 5:00. I did, in fact, check the...

Do not, do not, do NOT try to heat-blacken the metal. Zinc is very reactive, but I usually see a white corrosion. My only notes on the corrosion of zinc is for a white fuzzy coating. This is the only non-commercial patina thing I've found, and it requires Cu2+ ions, so I doubt it's something ...

For European armor. Japanese armor overlaps back on top of front.

Remember to take the overlap into account when you attach straps. I have a gorget which gaps because I didn't remember that. Basically, offset them away from the edge.

Talked to Ugo and we're getting set up in that regard. We're still go for today. I've decided to head down with the Isuzu truck and pick it all up so we're not playing the idiot on their loading docks, so we'll throw it in the truck, go meet up someplace else and start shoveling the steel around. Rob: Did you get that check for the $20 I owed you?

Also, the 22ga seems to have fallen by the wayside as one of the less popular gauges. Dunno if you can get enough people now, but seeing as how I'm contacting them in less than an hour, probably not a lot of time.

They just got back to me. 2-3 working days to prep the order, $1.15 per pound (with the 15%) at 1,000 lbs. This means we save $50 on 1000 lbs. It's $50, but probably not something to bank on. It's rather nice, though.

Pickup is 8-8 M-F.

So next Wed. or Thurs. we'll pick up if we order Thursday.

All else being equal, Ti doesn't form well. It also is expensive and relatively soft to impacts. I just feel it's the same as plastic. If it's hidden or looks like steel, then it's great for LARP or SCA stuff. I'm an officer in the SCA and do enjoy it, but, as I said, I try to be more authentic in m...

No, spring steel would be nice for modern strength/weight ratios. It's more authentic than titanium or stainless steel. If you're talking ferrous metals, you're looking at wrought bloomery iron which may or may not have a case or bands of carbon for hardening. Bloomery iron isn't exactly common nowa...

I wouldn't buy any, but I'd suggest spring steel. It's lightweight, stiff, yet it has enough mass to slow an impact (for the SCA et. al)

I'm just on an authenticity kick lately, don't mind me.

We'll take a look at the load when we're a little closer to the complete order. Well, I'd happily cover a beer for anyone with a truck. If it comes down to it, I can see if I can borrow my friend's turbodiesel super-duty. Or, if it gets too much for that, I can get a 14,000lb Isuzu box truck for $90...

In case anyone wants more information on how this steel reacts, visit http://www.eskimo.com/~cwn/hardening.html and see Sinric's comparison charts. 16ga, for example, can react like 12ga all the way to 7ga! 14, being the beast it is, can act like 10-5ga, that's almost like a quarter inch of steel! I...

The price breaks are per thickness, so we'd been 500# of, say, 20ga alone.

I don't think we'll have any trouble breaking 200#, though.
