I'm sorry, is this the MAG or the ARS? In either case, I'll be there so long as the ARS convention tickets are reasonable. :)

Goddamn, Hal. You need to start offering those for sale more often. Not my time period, but I'd fight one and wear one if I could justify it with my armor.

And the bluing idea sounds wonderful. I like it.

Although if you're interested in doing any more museum work or armouring, I have two weeks off starting Monday.

Hmm. Fairly certain you can use semis in Wisconsin. Well, whatever your local laws say. :)

I wish I had the money to pick up the 7mm Remmington with an included Leopold scope I saw about four years ago. Quality weapon.

The Russian is superior, no doubt about that. I meant well made for the Chinese models. :) Sorry if there was any doubt.

And you can hunt deer with those. They've got less power than a .30-06.

It's cold, maligned and I dunno about jobs, but consider Wisconsin. We've got lots of wilderness depending on where you go. Not two hundred feel from me right now is a few dozen acres of marshland (in a city!) and a few miles away is several miles of Ice Age Trail (where the glaciers ended during th...

I personally like #1, but I can't afford it. I'm starting Christmas in a really deep hole, I can't spend too much more, especially on myself. And you can't have my guns. Although I have an export model Chinese SKS (the ones that are actually made well) but I like that gun. And that's a rather funny...

I only have line-art drawings of the front of the effigies at the moment. If they're hinged and buckled, that would also imply that they extend the entire circumferance of the hips. Okay, thanks. :)

I'm kind of confused. Are ventails and aventails distinct? Are you talking about 11th century armor (as T.Bob does) or all periods? What threw me was the "later period" applied to the mail draping from a nasal. Because if a ventail like you're talking about is the same as an aventail on an early 15t...

And if I had to pay a dollar a month for the Archive, I most certainly would. I have nothing but confidence the price is well thought out.

X-post from R&A So, I've been looking through effigies, and I'm fairly certain I know what I want to do and how to do it, except for the faulds I find on the breastplates. Effigies? (hardcopy sources)

I did a brief look on Amazon, but I'd like any print sources (ideally collectsions of effigies) that people particularly like.

I'm currently interested in ~1415 (100 Years War) English, but everything is helpful. :)

I think their response was a bit evasive, but not insulting. What alloy? Was this carbon steel or stainless? I don't think it's a bad helm, actually. The eye slots are a bit ugly (and definately look welded) but the bacinet looks good for a cheap piece. Although, let me point out this is why I build...

What you have to remember is one size will never fit all. My head is quite oval, which makes custom helms (in my experience) a must, and makes Japanese helms look rather silly. ;)

Armoring: How long is too long in one day?

I was getting ready for an event (which I didn't make it to) and I wanted to finish my harness (which I didn't) and I ended up working from eleven in the morning to three in the morning with an hour off, two lunch breaks, and one break because my back hurt. Today, my hands don't flex right, it hurts...
