Exactly. Bid fever sorta got the best of me until I realized, "I bought a creasing stake for $20 . . ." And we all like ya, Hal. You do good work. Besides, now I get a surprise in my box of cereal! Plus I admire your beard. If I ever lose my hair (the day is coming!) so that I don't need to worry ab...

Ah, Mykeru, (it takes all my will to not type Maikaru every once in a while!) I thank you for your prompt response. That sounds nice. I assume the gold is just a dye color. You can't usew leaf or anything on a piece of fabric, can you? I think I'll do silk eventually, but I'm definately leaning towa...

Looks like a frog mouth tournament helm. The thing on the back is a cloth cover. It's a cloth piece held on by a circlet sort of piece. I'm not clear on that myself, but I'll look up a frogmouth helm for ya. Edited to add: http://www.bobmaurus.com/products/commissions/cornellpics/frogmouth-3.jpg htt...

Japanese foundation farbic (ieji) colors
Does anyone know what color ieji was used by Samurai in about the Sengoku period? I've been looking at a bunch of pictures, and I really can't figure out what I should be doing for color. I'm thinking red lace with yellow (and maybe white) for details, but at this point it won't take much to talk me...

Hey, you want more, you quote me a price and I'll see if I can spare it. That's probably not as high as I'd go, anyway. Shipping itself would probably be a chunk from that. It's nice. I need a replacement mushroom-style stake after my black steel pipe endcap lost to a rivet. How does that sort of th...

I meant for the steel, actually. Lacing was disposable. For a short, bad wather campaign, I'd trust lacquered steel. I'm sure the lace would get quite dirty, but so would your clothing. I'd rather have wet lace than rusted steel. Granted, some European armor was surface-treated to make it hold up be...

Cheaper? If I recall correctly, Halberds has a greathelm kit for under $80. I don't think you're going to get much lower than that. Bear in mind, most shop rates are $20-$25 an hour, so even with precut pieces you're looking at only four hours of work for $100. With all that riveting, I couldn't do ...

JT, lord of common sense. At least on this board. I pay $5/month for far more space and bandwidth than I can possibly need. It's rather nice. It means every AA post I make will have the images for as long as possible. You could probably go Battle of Wisby, too. They had a large amount of coats of pl...

If it wasn't for the fact that baggy clothes have saved me in paintball, I'd make myself some armor and trot around in that. Be pretty funny. "If I can't feel it, it's not good!" I'd need a gorget, as they'd be aiming for my neck, then. Very nice, Hal. It's hard to believe I'm in the same hobby/busi...

No. I have not handled this braid. To be honest, I wouldn't know quality lacing if it bit me. I'm more than willing to take a chance, however. This is virtually identical to the last two products Eff has suggested which I can't get my hands on. (Cheep Trim discontinued the red in 3/8" and Rice never...

Please don't use my helm as an example of what to look for or expect. It's my first effort. Is you're looking for something like that, however, it could almost be considered the typical Japanese helm. You'd be looking at different plate counts and other details, but that's a Japanese helm. Have you...

Here're my general thoughts. Maille through German Gothic: Good mobility, nice range of motion on the shoulders. Foot sloggers and good at it! Milanese and Jousting kits: Insanely protective at the cost of mobility. Jousting armor moreso on both counts. Middle Eastern: Protective and with better ven...

I'm looking for Mechanical Engineering. It's gonna cost me all four limbs, but it'll be worth it. Me entire three years of random tech schooling and two year schools got me about 20 credits towards the 194 I need. It's worth it, though. Well, I'd like to place an order sometime soon. I'm going to be...

I checked through my Oriental Armour book (H. Russell Robinson) and found a few 15th century suits of the same type of construction (with radically different plate placement) and some 18th and 19th century Indian stuff. This is looking at the plates, as I havn't had time to hit those chapters...
