Exactly. Bid fever sorta got the best of me until I realized, "I bought a creasing stake for $20 . . ." And we all like ya, Hal. You do good work. Besides, now I get a surprise in my box of cereal! Plus I admire your beard. If I ever lose my hair (the day is coming!) so that I don't need to worry ab...

You know . . . In a case like that, could you put breaths in the back? Not ideal, I know, but it's a better idea for a jousting helm, no?

I mentioned a dessicant box in a previous thread. It'll keep about three cubic feet dry, you'd just need to take it out and bake it (no kidding) every once in a while.

If you're interested, I can look it up again.

And why not store it at my house and forget about it? ;)

Ah, Mykeru, (it takes all my will to not type Maikaru every once in a while!) I thank you for your prompt response. That sounds nice. I assume the gold is just a dye color. Looks like a frog mouth tournament helm. The thing on the back is a cloth cover. It's a cloth piece held on by a circlet sort of piece. I'm not clear on that myself, but I'll look up a frogmouth helm for ya. Edited to add: http://www.bobmaurus.com/products/commissions/cornellpics/frogmouth-3.jpg htt...

Japanese foundation farbic (ieji) colors

Does anyone know what color ieji was used by Samurai in about the Sengoku period? I've been looking at a bunch of pictures, and I really can't figure out what I should be doing for color. I'm thinking red lace with yellow (and maybe white) for details, but at this point it won't take much to talk me...

Heh. That's funny.

Were those actually used with any shoulder armor? The design always struck me as late 16th century early 17th sort of "Age of Blackpowder" sorta armor. Then again, I havn't seen one outside of Conquistadors (I'm sure that's spelled wrong) and the movie Shogun.

I agree with the max bid thing. It's very conveniant. The only problem I have is impluse buying.

$30.00

Ultimately, I think this is actually safer than eBay. In here you have to be at least somewhat coherant instead of type number, hit button. Decimal in wrong place?

Not to mention I can strongarm other bidders.

Ah, but if only I was rich. I'd make a 16ga 1050 harness and never worry about it again. Maybe an 18ga just to make it more period. ;)

I like the story. It made me want to work in carbon steel. Maybe when I'm better at moving metal in general.

What I'm interested in is do you dish all your lames slightly, or are they really just curves?

Mik, is English your first language? If not, you're doing pretty well with only a little inconsistancy. You probably do better than I do when I'm tired. ;)

I meant for the steel, actually. Lacing was disposable. For a short, bad wather campaign, I'd trust lacquered steel. I'm sure the lace would get quite dirty, but so would your clothing. I'd rather have wet lace than rusted steel. Granted, some European armor was surface-treated to make it hold up be...

Cheaper? If I recall correctly, Halberds has a greathelm kit for under $80. I don't think you're going to get much lower than that. Bear in mind, most shop rates are $20-$25 an hour, so even with precut pieces you're looking at only four hours of work for $100. With all that riveting, I couldn't do ...

If it wasn't for the fact that baggy clothes have saved me in paintball, I'd make myself some armor and trot around in that. Be pretty funny. "If I can't feel it, it's not good!" Radial spoke?

It looks like a grinding wheel, and I'm actually not sure if it has a grit rating, as it's really not overly abrasive. It's like a really evil pre-compounded buffing wheel.
