Heraldic use in the mundane world (Family lines, etc.)

Yea, I'm kinda back. Can't spend all day on the Archive anymore, though. Anyway, I'm interested in seeing if my family has any registered devices. I've seen a few ideas (mostly people trying to sell me stuff) but I'm a bit more concerned about it than to trust that. So I'd like to ask a few basic qu...

Tell me those aren't pop-rivets.

Yea, Eff, that's the first thing I thought. It looks like the visor is turned up.

It's a nice looking helm. An SCA menpo seems a hard thing to get right. Looks pretty neat.

It's a beautiful system. Cad would do no less. It's hard to do, but it looked like it worked beautifuly. Believe me, time at open shop nights is time well spent. I didn't get much done (I think I did a gorget, some simple non-articulated vambraces and 9/10 of my helm) in the year or so he was around...

I'd like to do maille (probably not over padding) but the expense is the issue. Maybe I can save up and justify buying one by the time I'm done with the rest of the harness. Personally, I find maille aggravating to make, which is why I'll happily support our maille makers when I can. I'll look into ...

Nice ones, Orc. Maybe that's why we should roll all our edges.

Seroiusly, great recycling job, but poor execution in safety. I'd like to see that sort of thing happen safely, however.

The fact that he opened a book (or web page) to find something he could do was kinda cool, too.

Is that society or kingdom? *checks the Northshield handbook* Huh. We're at society minimums. Go figure. Ah, it's society wide. Mmm. So even sevel or more layers of linen is disallowed. Good to know. Not happy with it, but good to know. Heavy leather, eh? Does this mean I could make the linen aventa...

Duncan, I'll take you up on that, actually. Okay, let me explain this as best I can. If someone picks you up by the head, even if you had no desire to press charges, would not be a fit marshal, and should have been reported. From what I recall, he's an Earl Marshal, so I doubt anyone called him on i...

I'm not strong by any stretch of the imagination. The only real training I do is picking up and swinging a hammer. I still think you'd need to use a lot of muscle to do so. I also think I'd have filed a battery charge, or at least had his belt or marshal status stripped. Well, I was referencing chiv...

I'm glad to hear it. :)

I apologize for not telling you he found a place to work, but it slipped my mind, sorry.

I'm looking forward to seeing the helm. I havn't seen it for a while, and that closure system was nice. I hear it's difficult, however.

Bascot, chill. You walked into this badmouthing people and making statements that were, quite frankly, not only trolling, but downright spectatular, to put it nicely. You expect us to believe someone can pick up an armored man by the helmet so you can swing free? Jehan's point wasn't about yo...

Honestly, the reason I'm using 16ga on the helm is I don't have any 14ga I kept, and I don't feel like ordering steel for a looooong time. I'm also interested in how the mass comes out with being raised. If, for example, this was a 24" diameter circle when I started, it would come out to almost eigh...

Next harness planned, Agincourt. SCA - Marshals, please.

Okay, so I've been talking about my plans for an Agincourt harness and even been working on it, but now I've been really interested in doing it right, and with the 1050 I have, I'd like to begin work. Here's my planning, and I'd like to hear opinions from authenticity and SCA combat perspectives. Th...

Can you make a left on red from a one-way road in YOUR state?) Yes, assuming the road you are turning on is also one way. I think you're mixing two ideas here. There aren't any real modern hard armors. All our ballistic armor tends to be soft, barring some hardened plates, and what rigid armor I've seen from the modern age (WWI on) seems to have forgotten the lessons of history and looks pretty awful. Therefore, I thin...

That's the way the Glactic Empire made them, too. Havn't seen 'em stop a shot yet.

I'm not entirely sure if I like it or not. I dislike the plastic concept in general, but if it was done well, it might not be too bad. Well, it might not look too bad, I mean.

That, Raito, I'd believe. However, a plastic or fiberglass one piece dou, while probably not as protective as a store-bought one, might be more acceptable to keep everything intact.
