Holy Moley, folks! Take a look at this website:
www.hermann-historica.com
I found an ad in the latest issue of "Apollo" (page 71). I particularly liked the early medieval swords and helmets (one from the 5th C and one from the 10th C.)

We really didnt have a name for ours, but it was along the same lines as Mord's. But one thing we did was had everyone that wanted to, be a single and also a pair. If someone didnt want to be a single, that was fine, and for the newer folks, we had no problem with that. But basically, we started wi...

I've done both (obviously with a partner), and had to fight both. Both sticking together and splitting (and attacking at an angle) work: both can also fail. The key in this sort of situation is speed and aggression. The opportunity is at that instant, and may disappear. Attack, now, and then go find...

Cet (aka. Dave Rylak) is still in business. However, recently his computer fried itself, so he's hard to get hold of.

You know, I have always thought that Bruce-Mitford assumed that those two pieces (the dragon and the bird of prey) went on the sheild because they were found near sheild pieces, and he couldn't think of any other thing that they might have been used for. But the work is stunning, absolutely stunnin...

I couldn't even watch the part about the Norse. Seriously, I flipped over to one of the syndicated Law and Order shows. The way they were portrayed made me think the script had been written by 9th century Anglo-Saxon monks. I'm surprised the Saxons weren't treated like they were in that King Arthur...

The shield disintegrating was pretty bad. Reminded me of Peter Woodward tearing up a butted mail shirt in his ::awful:: show. Not to derail too much but It did raise a question with me. In the episode with the Lombards. They are shown sacking a Roman city and the Roman soldiers are all shown in gen...

Quantative history for this era (The Early Middle Ages, The Dark Ages, Post-Roman Europe, etc...) is a very iffy thing. Who did the counting? Who did the recording? Where was the recording done? Remember, Europe still used, if anybody counted at all, the Roman system; Arabic numerals hadn't been int...

Currently it is a 26 Inch round centergrip (no straps currently just a handle) Also, a tip, folks in period almost always used an oval shaped handle. These days I use an ax or maul handle cut down to size. Rough-up the grip with sand paper so it isn't slippery. Mord. I used an axe handle on my late...

Currently it is a 26 Inch round centergrip (no straps currently just a handle) Ok, when in range, you should be throwing shots. If you're in range, and not throwing, you're in trouble. Leave. Quickly. Your sheild can not block more than 2 or 3 successive shots, so use it to block when you're gettin...

If I remember correctly, we see some examples of silk in textile studies; this means there was some sort of connection to silk road/routes. Also, there is presence of Kufic silver coins. This also re-inforces the Eastern connection. But was that connection two way? Could the Swedes, etc. have sent f...
