Serious. Armor. Porn.

Holy Moley, folks! Take a look at this website:

www.hermann-historica.com

I found an ad in the latest issue of "Apollo" (page 71). I particularly liked the early medieval swords and helmets (one from the 5th C and one from the 10th C.)

We really didnt have a name for ours, but it was along the same lines as Mord's. But one thing we did was had everyone that wanted to, be a single and also a pair. If someone didnt want to be a single, that was fine, and for the newer folks, we had no problem with that. But basically, we started wi...

An old drill: "Chomping" Take your most experienced fighters (no matter what the weapons form) and line them up at 10 foot intervals. Take your novices and pair them off at random. Send the paired novices at each single, who can move one step left or right, or, back or forth. The paired no...

I've done both (obviously with a partner), and had to fight both. Both sticking together and splitting (and attacking at an angle) work: both can also fail. The key in this sort of situation is speed and aggression. The opportunity is at that instant, and may disappear. Attack, now, and then go find...

Got a question, Ny Bjorn. Over time, I've seen objects described as made of a "copper alloy" instead of, say, "bronze." What's the reason for this? Is there an archaeological definition of bronze?

Not trying to be critical, just curious.

Thanks,

You know, I have always thought that Bruce-Mitford assumed that those two pieces (the dragon and the bird of prey) went on the sheild because they were found near sheild pieces, and he couldn't think of any other thing that they might have been used for. I couldn't even watch the part about the Norse. Seriously, I flipped over to one of the syndicated Law and Order shows. Quantative history for this era (The Early Middle Ages, The Dark Ages, Post-Roman Europe, etc...) is a very iffy thing. Who did the counting? Who did the recording? Where was the recording done? I watched it. "The Dark Ages" had more than I expect. The role of the Church (and its history) was "watered down," since they only mentioned St. Benedict and his monastic rule, but they forgot the schism between the Eastern Church (Byzantium), Arianism, The Cluniac reforms and Po...
