Having briefly looked at the Cambridge Ancient History (1994), I would reccommend you look at Vol. VI ("The Fourth Century BC). There's a short work on the "Celts" and Northern Europe. The notes for this article begin on page 944. For all its brevity, there's lots there. Two titles I picked-up: "La ...

Mord's library isn't so magical, and it does have limits. Ancient Iron Age warriors of about 380 BC isn't an area I don't have much knowledge about, off the top of my head. But I know where I'd start... There's probably something in the Cambridge Ancient History. Warning: this stuff will put you to ...

Depending on how much you want to spend, you could just buy one 4x8 piece of 1/2" oak or birch and make your shields out of that. Router the edge to a nice rounded edge, and then cut out a boss hole, and add your boss and handle. They should last you a few practices/tournies each before they go. Yo...

The Jargon of History.

I am beginning this thread in order not to derail another thread in this forum. Having stated this, one of my fascinations (some would say miserable addictions) is historiography, and much my thinking here reflects past and continued work. There are three words I wish to discuss: "medieval" "feudali...

What type of underwear did the "Vikings" use? Well, I'm certainly not telling YOU, Glen. Lots of questions here, and not a lot of answers. Let me begin with the term "viking." If you read Gywn Jone's "A History of the Vikings" he begins by discussing the word, and comes, really, to no useful conclu...

Hmmm...I have my doubts about the plausability of this idea. I suppose a metalurgical examination of the helm would be in order, and then a comparison with well dated Roman objects of the same material. The Coppergate Helm was found at the bottom of a (dry) well, and so the context of the find does ...

Maybe it's because it's late in the day and late in the week, but honestly folks, I think you're all abusing history.
