I really have not problems with it. I think "defining" half speed is going to take some time. The Caution is worthy. I also think finding documentation for Early Medieval fighting styles is going to be troublesome. Late Period has manuals: I've seen no such thing for early or even High medieval time...

First, you are dealing with completely different times: the 12th century and the 16th century. It's very easy to look at both and see similarities between the two; the most obvious of these similarities is the conflict between the the Church (thru Canon Law) and the Royalty (thur Secular Law). Howev...

Your right, Torvaldr, Some folks need to be more forgiving. I have made what became leather lamellar--I called them scales. I will never do so again: not because "it's not period," but because it's a pain in the neck. Were I to want to do so again, I'd probably contact you. For me, the real problem ...

Being tough as a fighter is important. Being smart is even more important. Think on that. Agreed. Wear a cup on the groin. Wear welding gloves. Wear body armor--even if it's home made. If you can cruise on this list, you can find the website of your SCA kingdom and local group. Email me anytime on ...

Greetings from Finland. Nice to see interest in recreating finnish personas. Unfortunately it might be difficult to find sources in english. The book, whose citation I posted, I found in University of Pennsylvania's Museum Library. When I looked the cite up on WorldCat- the only place that seemed to own this stuff was the University of Finland, in Helsinki, the Library of Congress, and the University of Indiana at Bloomington. A. WEAR A CUP! GOD DAMNIT!!! B. If you're hit in the groin, take it. C. Please do not aim for the groin. I have taken all the cup shots that have come my way, no matter what the intent or the power. So much time, so many hard hits. I think the hardest I've ever been hit was at an Innerkingdom Peace on bridge battle. Sir Magnus Bloodaxe was fighting pole (as usual) and I was fighting sword and shield (as usual). We had already fought quite a bit that day, but most of us had lots of energy. The h...
