A few thoughts about teaching: 1. With very few exceptions, it has been my experience that a novice has to come to a few practices to just get used to wearing the gear. Teachers need to patient. 2. There comes a time when a student "needs to go out fighting" so he/she can begin to understa...

Love the copper. I've always thought that using copper for decoration would be spiffy, Hal. What guage copper are using and how hard was it to work?

Great stuff.

Actually, getting your gear onto the field isn't as hard as getting it off.

I partially gear up before going to the field. I carry my helmet & gorget in a rucksack over my shoulder, my sword & shield in my hands.

All that said, make sure your kit's in good shape and your weapons are beyond legal. I've never gone through a Gulf War inspection without getting something bounced, but rarely had trouble anywhere else. True that, I had a thrusting tip on my Great sword that had seen use in the East get bounced be...

A Question: Gulf Wars Armour?

Currently, I'm using hockey shin-guards for knee protection. Yes, they are covered up, and so far no one has given me any problems up here in the EK.

However, I'm going to Gulf Wars. Are these shin-guards ok for that?

Thanks, all,

First of all, I don't call the "barrell plastic armor," armor. I call it gear. Secondly, the plastic gear I make for fighting is covered up, to the best of my ability. Tunics hide a lot. Thirdly, the plastic gear I make, I don't charge for. It's intentionally cheap. It's also intentionally...

I think this whole arguement thread comes down to a matter of perspective, but I will review Owen-Crocker and P. Rogers tonight. And, as I've stated, understanding the making and use of leather in the early middle ages takes some time to make coherant. I think both sides are being too brief, as much...

there's nothing AGAINST it in the rules. The rules tell you what needs to be protected by your armour. As long as you protect that, you're fine. You may have to educate some marshals. It is what it is. Yup. There might be some less experienced marshals out there who, A. become enamored with their a...
