I'm interested in what you will be fighting in; obsiously some form of hidden armor under clothing. I'm working on an unarmoured look for conquest-era Norman (frankly I will have better use for a morgage payment sized chunk of money for the forseeable future), and would like some ideas. Ancel I ass...

Your byrnie and helmet would probably be in your ship bench / chest Now if we could just get folks to reexamine this bit of nonsense:) Admittedly I used to take stock in the old sea chest thinkology Then I spent several tours in the North Atlantic on a small ship by Navy standards but large in comp...

There ya go then - I don't wear a suit too often as a consultant, but they're still hanging in the closet. Your byrnie and helmet would probably be in your ship bench / chest Not really. Couldn't afford mail--too expensive. Go back and read my first couple of posts where a Carolingian byrnie costs ...

So what did you do in your wild youth to acquire the resources to establish a prosperous farm? Jarl Hakon has one spear he cherishes, his story is that it come back from one raid wrapped in gold chain which provided him the money for a good farm What did I do in my mis-spent youth? Well, of course,...

Re: A thought or two
That being so, I would think that a 10th century Icelander would not have owned mail. Simply put, he would not have been able to afford the stuff. A good sword or other weapon would have been cheaper and more useful. Mord. Well you know more about 10th century Icelanders then just about anyone I kn...

A thought or two
I have decided that the equipment I use for fighting, with a few exceptions, is not armor. Instead I will call this stuff "gear." I am trying to make gear which by as unobtrusive as possible. My reasons behind this thinking has to do with looking at early medieval mail. Lots of folks are c...

I find underarmour uncomfortable. It distracts me. I usually wear a a scrub shirt on hot days. Drink water before you fight. Drink your electrolyte solution about an hour to an hour and half before you fight. Eat a peice of fruit with breakfast--I like bananas Drink water between fights. Keep your g...

We ought to compile these titles into a list and put them in a location available for reference. Many more than Lady Ashley would benefit from it. I would like to compile as many armour books and there owners and locations for reference material. My dad and mom would help me compile the list for ev...

Is the situation better with medieval archaeologists? They're dealing with tangible objects. I'm not sure; most archaeologists I know claim to be scientists, and tend to feign offense if I imply their some sort of historian. I do not understand why she has such distain for medievalism? I'm not sure...

Wow, talk about shooting yourself in the foot with a shot-gun! Considering Ms. Allen's many paragraphs on the medival literary shit, I might suspect that she's just a bit anal-retentive. More importantly, considering she is about to finish her education and enter into the job-market as a medievalist...

Draven, Answering your question requires some specification: from where and when does your persona come? Answer these question and I might be able to direct you. That said, in my various studies I found fairly annoying generalizations. That arms and armor, including a helmet, shield part, weapons, a...

In my experience, the trick with plastic (Kydex or HPDE {barrel plastic}) is to make something protective that covers-up well. My current barrel plastic gear makes me look like one Dr. Frankenstein rejects. There's a carwash at the end of my block; I bought a barrel last night. I'm working on someth...

Basically, as I understand things, you have to show-up at an event or a practice with an EK authorization card application, show your Atlantian card to the marshal, and then fill-out the application for an East Kingdom card--signed by at least 2 marshals--, then mail the application to the Kingdom M...
