There's Tandy...estate sales...and eBay. Of the two Tandy's I've been to, the people were extremely helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable. You know, the Boy Wonder Chris Gilman did a thread on this very topic a year or two ago. Absolutely brilliant details and suggestions. You might want to search that.

Way easier to make the "melon slice" plate shapes that MattMaus did. I had to have those added to my bascinet as it turned out to have been a bit aggressively dished in manufacture. Ugly on the inside but fine on the outside.

A layer of upholstery fabric over cheap painter's canvas on 18 ga. mild steel holds up to full contact rebated steel combat. No problem for rattan combat. That combo looks better than plain canvas or duck cotton.
Do not use 16ga mild for a CoP, it will be excessively heavy.

can we simply take it as established that sport protection weighs less and does a better job of staying in place? Or should I just take it as established that nobody knows anything about what I'm talking about? I don't really want to get into the whys; I'd much rather stay with the hows. 1 No not n...

I believe this is the book that talks about women wearing corsets (the current meaning of the term, not the debatable 14thc meaning of the term) in the 14thc... or maybe I'm mis-remembering. Maybe something tragic happened though. He doesn't seem the sort to just vanish. Lets let the Brits on this forum ask around.

My old Sylveaston belt was one of the first made in the Middle Kingdom. It was from the original batch of three made in 1976 by Duke Merowald of Sylveaston’s squires Brusten and Kenneqrae in their university dorm. Here's the story in Brusten's own words: http://squires.midrealm.org/belts.htm (He al...

So I don't want leather or steel. There's this thing I saw years ago that looked like 3/4 arms . . . So given the difficulty you're experiencing, let's go over why leather or steel are nonstarters. In this game, that is odd I'm sure you'll admit. The why of it is escaping me because it hasn't been ...

Oh, you have no idea... but I'll bet some other folks with older pictures will inform you. I lost all my digi photos in 1997. I'd have to scan something just to show you what a great kit you have by comparison. In 1978 anything more than a helmet and T-tunic was cutting edge.

I dunno if you have Michael's Craft Stores in your area but I suspect any major craft shop will carry the stuff. Two of the larger kits was plenty to cast my legs from knee to ankle. As similar amount should do the upper legs. I think they were $15 CAD per kit.

Thanks Mac! That is very comforting. This is my last helmet and I don't want to screw it up. Tin seems to polish up so brightly, its pretty cool. I originally came from Amtgard where corkscrewing is a legitimate tactic to An-Tir heavy. For example - I would get legged, my opponent steps in an...

Once upon a time there were defencemen's arms that were not far off late 14thC arm harness. Some clever sport equipment designer thought they would rejig goalie equipment. I dunno Jan. I've made maybe fifty - sixty hardened leather gorgets over the years and never had that complaint. The sides have to fit within the width of the collar bone at either extremity. In the short run switch from propane to MAPP gas in that torch. Make some kind of backstop for the heat as you hit the metal with flame. Not as expensive as oxy-acetylene but not as hot either although better than simple venturi-d propane. Fine for elbows and knees but not enough heat output to rais...
