Re: Please help identifying these visors
I wouldn't rely on the depth of those visors in those statues as being an exact accurate duplication of what they were intended to represent, either. Problems of perspective were hardly solved by artists in the first half of the 15th century, Nor in turn of the century B&W photographs... There is n...

I have a 52" chest and wear the XXL from Icefalcon. I'm only 5'9" so had to take some off the hem line as it was past mid thigh in length. The XXL is plenty roomy, maybe even a little too much, on me. An XL is just a bit restrictive for me. Tried both before I purchased.

The following link shows a panel from Talhoffers 1459 fechtbuch depicting a classic front snap kick in armored combat. http://www.thearma.org/pdf/th19.jpg You might think so until you've had a JKD instructor kick you as hard as he can when you are wearing a full kit. Hardly moves you unless its abo...

Do you have access to a carbon arc gouge? When In industry, if I needed to cut the shit out of something big and heavy I would use this. http://sweethaven02.com/ConstructTech/Welding01/fig0753.gif It uses carbon/copper coated arc rods and compressed air. It will cut through RR rails like hot butter...

Like I said, I've been using a jigsaw for several years and it works, but I'm looking to upgrade to something a little faster and smoother. Ive used a 18ga electric shear... John,
Princess Auto had their "14ga." power shear on sale for $50 or so last week. I don't know if its still on. I cut 18 stainless with mine all the time. 16ga mild is like cutting cardboard with it. 14ga takes a little more patience. Cutting oil along the line seems to help.

There's another plate in Fiore where you kick to the knee or upper shin in the longsword material, but the same master that teaches the "I'll give him a kick to his balls" material jester linked to. More accurately, "and I will stomp upon his cagliones." Not so much a krotchpunt as a marble stomp. ...

Re: Kicking in WMA?
Besides the great Krotchpunt manual, where would I find kicking in any of the WMA fechtbuchs? I'm seeing some small trips and what sound kind of like the kicks you do in judo to knock the guy's feet a little off the ground so he'll go down, but not the classic front snap kick. Where have you seen "...

I suspect it has less to do with hardening the leather than it does with prepping the surface for painting. I think the hide glue is there because it was part of the gesso applied to prep the leather for painting. That's just my thinking on the matter, so take it for what it is worth ;) Agreed. Hid...

Thanks Kel. Maybe brushing some heated SnoSeal on all sides of the finished, dyed pieces before assembly would be the best way to make the helms waterproof. Hm, so maybe this incompletely tanned, or "burned" leather is what I'm experiencing with the saddle skirting I use for helmets. Separate issues. Incompletely tanned has hard inclusions. Rock hard. Burned leather is over tanned or more specifically tanned too hard, too fast. One might compare the pr...

Are you looking to: 1) replicate the hardness of Dobson's pieces, using half-tanned leather baked on a last? 2) treat finished leather until it has behavioral properties similar to half-tanned leather? 3) have leather that is tanned, but dries stiff and rigid like rawhide does? All three have diffe...

Hi Odd- I don't think it was a value judgement from the docent. I think it was an observation that it was not what we accept today as a well tanned piece of leather - it wasn't a uniform tanning. Thus poorly tanned, or at leas that is how I took it. Exactly. Harness makers tend to say many bad word...

Unless the armoured man isn't wearing braies, he still needs to get at the drawstrings and whatnot, find a place to squat, et cetera. Some mess on the armour is to be expected, especially since holding up the mail around the hips is problematic while wearing arm harness. Taking a dump while standing...

Even for some kind of demo for the press - I dunno, but leaving your gorget off and your neck wide open just kind of sticks out like a sore thumb as an accident waiting to happen.
