With a perfect treb, you want a 100:1 weight ratio for CW to ammo. It depends on the beam ratio. 100:1 is ideal for a beam ratio of 5:1, where the payload end of the arm is 5 times longer than the counterweight end of the arm. The rule of thumb (known as "phsstpok's Rule") to use is mass ratio = 20...

Just as this thread was falling behind, I came across this:
From http://www.geocities.com/lyanna96/otherpics.html

The caption reads "A funky set of armor"
I can't even tell what it's made of.
What disturbs me more is that guy's 18thC (?) kilt.

Some of the Mandrake weapons use EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) foam. A thin (1/8" or so) version is sold as "craft foam". See m - Heh, they even show how to make a crested greathelm with 1/2" thick EVA. As it happens, Mandrake sells it as "5# EVA Architectural Foam" for DIY weapons - m - it's not cle...

Re: spaulders question
Not a stupid question. It seems somewhat arbitrary, as far as mechanical function goes.
On this 15thC pattern by the same author - http://www.armourarchive.org/patterns/s ... on_sinric/ - the curved edge looks like it's on the bottom.

I even found one that looks like........an armadillo! m It could be a badger or something as well. Maybe it's a dog in armour. http://www.ptak.org/splats/02.09.iowa_wisconsin/im001804_hotr_dog_in_armor_9286.jpg That would seem to be a combat dog. from your statements on straps it sounds like you are planning on strapping it to your forearm and not using it as a center grip. Heater Shield - Get Bent
So, there are a number of threads and web sites about how to bend and laminate a shield, but a few points are missing in all of them. - Why curved? What's the advantage, other than looking a cooler than a flat shield. Is it supposed to give a bit better coverage (by wrapping around the body a bit) o...

Yeah, it occured to me after finding all those hinge images that all of them depended on the barrel not coming unbent.
