Also, if you use canvas the same colour as the field of your arms, it doesn't need painting so you don't get your arms scuffed up as badly. The rest of your arms painted on will stick better too. Excellant idea. Even if you used white canvas and Rit dye (the same colour as the field) before paintin...

In the SCA cuts to the head are fatal. I can hear when the blade strikes and call it as good. I then let my partner tell me if it was not a valid blow (flat or not enough of a draw.) Ah. Varies by Kingdom. Society regs: A. Blows are struck by: thrusting with the point of the blade (thrust); sliding...

Calling somebody out because of a silly internet argument is pretty dumb. I suppose you think it would be dumb to defend a master's thesis with boxing gloves instead of, say, reasoned arguments demonstrating familiarity with the subject. Some of those university professors are pretty slow with thei...

Two man enter, one man leave! This is how me and my freinds fight: One on one, each man armed with a sheild and shinai (home-made) Unarmoured, no helmets. Full Contact. Fight until surrender. An excellant introductory site, great selection of photos, and representative of my own conception of what goes on in the SCA, so it must be right. It sounds a bit like the thing about how many hoofs are raised on an equestrian statue dedicated to a Civil War officer, except that Snopes sez there is no pattern. - m What a coincidence... further down that page, it has this: [quote]This type of statuary lore is neither new nor unique to equestria...

who says helms dont look right without more armor? I beg to disagree. Cheers, Leo [image: m ] Yeah, it looks nice, but... I can't see exactly how close the mesh goes, but I think I'd object to the nasal sticking out (both above and below the visor) as having the potential to trap blade tips, especi...

Re: Your Experience as an Armor Questionnaire
1. What got you into armoring? Siege Engines. If I want to become a Siege Marshal, I need a Heavy auth. For that I need armour. Soon, the interest in armour overtook the interest in Siege. My first project, though, was a buckler for Rapier Combat. 2. What do you most enjoy about the process? Concept...

how do you do this? i'm thinng on greaves and vanbraces, i can't do it with out altering the shaping and with out leaving hammer marks I have a similar problem with bucklers, in the transition between the umbo and the flat part. Crossed Legs - several questions
So, what's the story on the crossed legs on effigies? Most "sources" mention that it is thought that it means the knight either went on crusade, or died in battle, or both, but they don't claim it's the real deal. See renderings of effigies at m Is there thought to be a connection with the Tarot car...

While not a proper blackening procedure, you can get a really cool effect by heat blackening a dished piece (before or after planishing) and jumping straight to #600 grit sandpaper, #1000 grit, and then buffing compound on a wheel. It comes out with this random-looking polygonal pattern of spots of ...

If sandwiching two 1/4" layers together, would it make much difference to add a third layer of, say, a 3" wide frame or border around on the back? I'm thinking it would help make it a bit more rigid without adding a lot more weight overall. I'd bevel the inside edge so there's fewer splinters, maybe...

Why not go ahead and throw on a helmet with a peascod breastplate? That would probably look great. Or would that be illegal? I don't think it would be illegal, as such, but probably not a good idea. Magyar helm - how to make the pointy top?
So, how might one go about fabricating the pointy bit on the top of this helm, and attaching it? m http://www.samarkandia.com/images/produits/19.jpg It's gonna be for a friend, for costume only, not combat. That looks pretty cool, with the twist in the overlaps and all. With age and oxidation in areas like the crevices, the design will only become more obvious (in a good way).
