In my SCA experience with finger gauntlets if you get hit in the hands it hurts like crazy but you probably aren't going to get your finger broken. YMMV depending on the type and amount of padding.

Personally I decided I didn't like them and will stick with mittens.

I generally train at least once a week, I would prefer 2 or 3 but its hard trying to find someone to train with here.

I usually try and do pell work twice a week as well, weather permitting.
