Kingdom lawyer???? WTF? Never heard of such a thing. But you're apparently qualified to speak about it. Yeah never heard of one because it's not a position that kingdoms hire someone to do. SCA legal matters are dealt with by the SCA Inc. legal team. Show me the list of these Kingdoms lawyers that ...

Here the kingdom has a responsibility to define what is "safe." In Atlantia, "safe" means they can throw a blow of sufficient force, and that they can at least attempt to block a blow. They don't have to make the block, but their shield better be moving to do so when they get hi...

I don't know why I had this in my head, but for some reason I had thought a white belt was essentially a permanent auth card in any form the wearer chose to use. Learn something new every day... This was some time ago, so those conditions did not apply. Then again, personally, a white belt should n...

Northshield has multiple authorizations. I prefer it, and prefer sword and shield as the first authorization, but it would be a very long post to describe my position. And I have lived in other Kingdoms that had (essentially) a single authorization. I found that I really don't like the 'you're safe ...

Demostrably false. In Northshield, the former SCa President, Patrick Anderson, filled that function prior to becoming President. Unfortunately, it was necessary at the time.

But thanks for playing!

Jess, I, too find the showers really awful, but I've only used the ones in the corral. The rest of Northshield assures me that some of the shower trailers are much better. It's just that I'm usually in one of the cabins, so I've never tried other showers. I also recommend eating at the camp store. T...

I have short fingers, so I really hate those twisted bits some people put under their tape. I use the required cap on the end, then I use 3 pieces of stair tread tape about 4 inches long, laid lengthwise. 3 pieces just about covers the circumference, and 4" long means that the thumb and forefin...

Dishing the lames should not be necessary. If you notice on that pattern, the lames are curved. That makes the lower side of the lame shorter than the upper side. When making this type of dou, when curling (to use TOMAR's terminology) the lames to fit the body, the axis of the curl need to be perpen...

I like your note about the curved shields. I agree with the argument (Hand, again) that the shield style developed because it closes the line in front and sides of the wielder, making it possible to attack without having to expose too much of the body. Anybody using curved shields find this to be t...

Following on the premise that the "standard" is mail, there is greater hazard to the blunt-force trauma of an edge attack than the point. The underlying argument is that armor does not need to be rent for an edge to be effective, whereas the same cannot be said of the point. I disagree. I...

All the madu's around here (and they're a dying breed) have only a basket, and no buckler, so that's the sort I was referring to.
