Many in the SCA who do Japanese are a foot taller than their personas.

There's 2 ways to deal with it -- either scale the armour up so that if they were of 'correct' height the proportions would be correct,

or make correctly proportioned armour for someone who, in period, would be very large.

I use closed cell polyethylene foam from MSC. Absorbs force quite well, and lasts a decent amount of time. No foam lasts forever. And for the rest of you reading this thread trying to get an idea of where to get foam, a simple search will show that this topic has come around before. I'm not complain...

Thomas, The BOH armour is quite a bit higher class than what that anime stuff was probably based on, which appears to be a, uh, reinterpretation of some ashigaru stuff. 'Cept the ashigaru didn't divorce their kuzsazuri from their dou, nor really sew their sode on their sode, if you know what I mean....

I greatly prefer the padded mandrels and graded scotch-brite like abrasives over sandpaper of any sort for rotary applications. They seem to last a lot longer, and not have troubles with curves or the occasional low or high spot.

I teach the novice to have the sword back. I have found that many who begin to fight with the sword forward tend to block with it, which is usually ineffective for a beginner. They tend to not get off shots, and not learn to use the shield well.

I see a difference between whether we mark minors, and how we mark them.

They're already being marked wherever I seem to go.

All this does is address the how in such a way as to regularize the markings. And that's good.

Whether to mark them is something else.
