$40US or close to it, depending on the current exchange rate. And for me the book is well worth that much, if not more. It is in French though, so be warned.

Jeff asked me to find this and post it here, as I'm the last one to have bought a copy.

It's available through Amazon.fr

Le livre des tournois du roi rene by François Avril

Service from Amazon France has been excellent for me.

Ceawlin, your posts always make me smile. It's nice to know I've done well by you. I'm off to the UK on the 14th to pow wow with some of the Regia and Vikings UK AOs about my summer fabrics and get feedback. I have my swatches, dyestuff list, weaving patterns and other stuff packed and I'm really lo...

'Lower class' or simply more common? 'Common' people outnumbered the elite something like 20/40-1, depending on where you want to draw your lines, so I suppose with one surviving garment it's no wonder it is more usual than unusual.

Are you thinking of nettles? Nettle has a long staple and I'm told it weaves up much like flax. I know that some archaeological remains have been determined to be nettle cloth rather than flax linen.

I had a look at Regia Anglorum's Basic Costume Guidelines and this gown meets the guidelines for women's under or overdress: The Overdress (O.E. Cyrtel, Tunece) The woman's overdress was generally ankle length with full length sleeves. Until the eleventh century the sleeves are depicted as tight, or...

The scale of the pattern in the Rene' image makes me think the size of the 'tile' pattern should be around maybe -10"-12" tall. That's pretty big for a stamp. Maybe a template you could trace around and then paint in might work better? Jeffrey and I had some woven grass rugs in our big ten...

Thigh high boots in a riding context, very early 15th C. Although they are intended to be ridden in, of course there will be times when you'd be walking around in your riding boots, as here: After the infantry went the mounted archers, four or five hundred strong. When these reached the top of the hill these troops, with the men-at-arms after them, number...

Not logic-

Can't see hungry- does he not believe in hunger?

How about a headache or stomachache- can't see those either.

There are loads of things that exist but that you can't see--and they're not all magical!
