Tournament of the Phoenix 2010
Sorry I have not posted updates on this event as I have in the past, I just seem to get busier and busier and have less and less time to do things. The Tournament of the Phoenix 2010 will be held next weekend, October 22, 23 and 24 at the Poway Valley Rider's Association in Poway California. This ye...

Isn't it though? Apache was an awesome horse. If I may be allowed to brag a little bit- On the first day of jousting Toby and Steve had problems with their horses and had to withdraw. Jeff was doing great on Apache, so volunteered to take Steve and Toby's courses. Since it was a teams event, the oth...

Jeff will be 48 in 2 weeks. He started jousting when he was 40, but he had been riding for 20 years before that. 2 weeks ago he was kicking butt and taking names- http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs700.snc4/62071_471313301207_593316207_7174266_7420626_n.jpg He intends to do it all over ag...

I get a lump in my throat over these horses. They are -so- tough and willing and fearless, and they just LOVE to joust. Lucas gets himself so wound up that he'll just spring straight up in the air like a rabbit, and when he's given his head he looks like he's been shot out of a crossbow. He literall...

Segunda can't play polo anymore because she's blind in one eye. It's against polo rules to play a horse blind in one eye. Hasn't slowed her down for jousting though, eh? I think it depends on they type of horse currently popular for polo where you are. Skinny Thoroughbred types are popular here. We ...

Unfortunately, wool or wool blend is almost a no win situation for us. When I use 100% wool the cost is higher, and the garment is more delicate. Delicate in that it has special requirements for wear and cleaning, not that it isn't sturdy. You have to be a bit careful about wearing wool when it is w...

I really enjoyed riding an ex polo pony though. They're great because they respond to your seat and leg so much. Lucas is an ex-polo pony (still plays but mostly does medieval stuff now) who took to jousting almost instantly. He's almost been the exception to the rule though, most of the polo ponie...

WTB Plastic [chain]mail or rings for same
Hi all- I would like to offer mail making as a kid's activity at our event next month. I thought it would be fun to use large plastic rings, so the young kids could weave a piece in a short amount of time without tools. Unfortunately, I can't find any sort of plastic ring which is suitable for this ...

There was quite a lot of BSD clothing at the event. Marc's coat and doublet were borrowed from WorldJoust Tournaments wardrobe, so yes, it's BSD. It gets around. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v1282/120/110/593316207/n593316207_2200098_9449.jpg http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs431.snc3/24...

Yes, we explored the site, it is quite wonderful! We stayed at Steve's house along with the other Ld'A competitors for the term of our visit, and he and Carole were wonderful hosts. He has a fantastic setup, just too many mosquitoes for my taste. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs426.snc...

Hi Miles- Steve and his team are indeed amazing people, and what a fantastic job they did with this event! We had such a great time, it was hard to get on the plane to come home. Were you involved in the St. Catherine event? I saw photos, it looked like a blast. I saw some BSD and what I suspected w...

Hi Avery- Most of the Crescent's armour is what is generally known as 'Milanese' or 'Italian export' style from the mid 15th C. Jeff and Toby's harnesses are spring steel, Steve Mallet's is mild. Jeff made his own armour, Toby's is a combination of armourers work- helmet by MacPherson, Cuirass by Pe...
