At the last maille making demo I did I used PVC rings, as previously suggested, for my how-to piece. To make it easier to explain the rows, I spray painted half of them red - it helps to make the pattern jump out. The girl scouts were using low gauge bailing rie rings that I wound and cut myself and...

What are you using as the etchant chemical? I'm etching brass using a nearly saturate solution of copper nitrate in DI water as my electrolyte. I agree with AwP though that the solution consituents shouldn't be too important as long as you have some sort of salt in the solution - may not be optimal...

When I started making maille, before I was old enough to have a paying job, I used second hand coat hangers from the local laundry mat. They are coated in a thin layer of some polymeric/paint/stuff. It sticks pretty well to the wire when all you are doing is hanging a shirt on it, but once the wire ...

Quality = 4 price (regardless of quality) = 5 Customer service (communication) = 2 (communication) 4 (customer service - see below) On time shipping = 2 (it was seriously delayed, however, once the package shipped, it got here in three days!) I think that the difficulties (communication and shipping...

Unto Conrad VandenBosch, does Haus Lowenstoltz sending greetings and salutations. Know that if it is the will of God and the Saints the following men at arms would attend your deed: His Excellency Straum von Bairzog, knight and companion of the Order of the Pelican, Lord of Haus Lowestoltz. I see that you have corrupted Sir Konrad now as well... If only that good 14th century German knight, Theoderic, were still around to talk some sense into you Cleftlanders... Nice job on the ironwork! I spoke with Sir Dirk about putting his site back up... He didn't seem completely opposed to the id...

Things aren't perfect, but it's not some massive clusterfuck disaster either. Nearly every delivery he makes or has made since June has been a month or so late, and he sometimes hasn't been entirely honest about that, but in the long run it's not really that bad. So far my order is between 48 and 6...

I feel, however, that this is an excellent opportunity to point out something you either don't know or inexplicably cannot bring yourself to understand: THE ENTIRE FREAKING COUNTRY, WHICH IS RATHER OBVIOUSLY A THIRD-WORLD ONE TO BEGIN WITH, IS UNDER WATER.* Hi Bob - No, I really do get that Westlan...

No rivets needed: Two holes on each side of your head where you would normally mount the rivets. Loop a LONG piece of paracord through one set of holes (if you are right handed I would suggest the left hand set of hols) so that both ends of the string are now inside the helmet. Take a rectangle of l...
