Re: Concussions and CTE

I have a friend who has done SCA combat for 25 years and recently went to a clinic specializing in pain for an MRI. In the doctors words his MRI should have the name Mohammed Ali attached to it and is beyond fixing at this point beyond serious pain meds. Don;t get me wrong SCA combat is probably one...

Heilmut name research

Hello friends,

I am looking for sources for the german name heilmut as a first name. Has anyone run accross this name before in the middle ages? If so if you can give me a vague idea of the source I'd be much obliged.

Re: Feeling shots in my 14th Century armour

Yeah I agree on the shoes and gauntlets. I have red shoes that go with the ensemble and a mail shirt. Just need the gauntlets and chausses. Oh to have money again. Soon, soon...

Re: Feeling shots in my 14th Century armour

Thankis for all the input folks. I really appreciate it. I am getting better at calibrating by force and sound. Even though I don't feel much. The armor I wear is beautiful and I would never stop wearing it. However with everything it will come with time and I'll base it more on sound then anything....

Feeling shots in my 14th Century armour

Hello folks,

I have just started fighting in full 14th century kit. My hips and low back are the most covered with a gambeson and coat of plates. I am having a bit of trouble feeling shots on the most protected bits. Any tips on how I might make adjustments to feel shots more definitly.

Re: Rus helm for sale

Very interested. Problem is I have a weird head shape. Can you measure the the front to back for me. I also am pushing into the 24" mark with padding.

Here are my measurments. Lets see if they jive.

Circumference: 23.5”

Front to back 15”

Side to side (ear to ear) 13”

I have used a combination of linseed oil and beeswax on a lot of my blacksmithed projects. Keep rust off like a charm.

Just to clarify, I am asking about the safety issues. I am just trying to gauge what is a safe level of padding to avoid concussions and 'having my bell rung'.

Helemt padding

Hello all, I am buying a helmet for my armor and am thinking about padding. I suppose ideally the padding in a helmet should be sufficient so that it doesn't move. Does 1/2" really accomplish this or should more be used. In addition how much protection would a heavy linen coif give. I am going ...

Want to buy a bascinet- ordered

Hello all,

I have a 24" head. I am in the market for a stainless steel Bascinet with aventail. and bargrill that can accommodate about 3/4" of padding. If anybody has one in stock or knows who I should look at for procuiring one that would be great.

It'll be worn under a coat of plates. How historically accurate would the flat ring chain be in everyone's opinion. Only GDFB sells solid/roudn as far as I know and its about 650 pounds so kinda costly. Let me know.

Yeah I was really just investigating. Right now I am leaning towards a flat ring blackened chain both for cost and replicating round/ solid alternatiing construction.
