Ok I think I understand how jousters helmet works since i work on them quite a bit .. My SCA helm is 14st an i do not know anyone even in the sca who can hit it hard enough to crease it .. not saying it cant happen but if you are hitting that hard there really is no need .. Helm Question
OK just out of curiosty .. Why do some of you an I have noticed other armorers who use 13g an 12g stainless helmet tops an even mild ones in 12 an higher gauges .. I have never needed to go above 14g stainless an that is for jousting helms as well .. preference ? availabilility of material ? etc etc

It does take some skill to pull it off ..I know you may not agree with this but from my point of veiw as a great weapon fighter thrusting is one of my weapons agaist a fighter with a sheild or polr arm or whatever he might have .. Ok I come from an orgaization that has no rules on thrusting to the face is legal an well lets say if you take a persons head of its ok .. hello all , work as a full time heat treeater here an make armour on the side .. the only real drawback that i am aware of is that the heat treated stainless doesnt tear like normal stainless but will just eventually break due to the hardness .. but it will take some time and quite a bit of abuse .....
