The peasants battle has always been a wonderful backdrop for our departure. We usually manage to get the baggage loaded and are pulling out as the toilet paper starts flying. It sort of puts Pennsic in perspective for us. And like Vitus said the whole thing is ridiculous. Fun, but not particularly s...

Hi Captain Jamie. I put two layers of foam on the cutting edge - blue wally world foam iirc. I am going to see if I can redo it putting a layer of higher quality foam between the head and the haft as JP has done. I like the clean line that gives much better. The foam padding has sort of blurred the ...

JP did you pad those at all? I did do on the one I made following my interpreatation of the rules. But it hits like a pillow, unless I wind up and really just take someone off their feet I get no response. If I miss with the poll and bean them with the haft they are very happy - . Just curious how o...

I like my kyptonite lock. It's rather heavy, but it has kept my shield from wandering off at those big events. It's important to get the 'Hay Bail Extender" so the cable will fit ALL the way around those big bails. Shield presses, snatches and the like are all timing techniques. Maintain your balanc...

Vasn does, he said $20/each plus shipping iirc. They still need to have the die stamp ground out, but it beats going to the local scrap yard and digging for them - if you have a local scrap yard that is. (I dont)

I remember Alastair saying he was moving to Finland. You can get the same basic shoe he made from the 'Medieval Shoes' link that pops up here on the archive ads. It's revival of course, their stuff looked pretty good when I saw it at pensic this past summer. I will buy my next pair from them if Alas...

Hiyaz Kegger - a few of us old timers are around - heck even a few of the ancient ones are still here. Note for those of you just tuning in. You are an old timer if you were around before PoD showed up and the boards crashed the first time, not necessarily related. You are ancient if you have...

James here is a link to Klaus' web site. His stuff is pretty good. I cant vouch for his scholarship, but his work is first rate. Everything is living history grade - at least for most groups standards. All visible stitching is hand done. All materials are natural and the cut of the clothing is as cl...

I have built four liners for SCA combat using the ideas that steve presents on his site. They are very comfortable. Mine are an evolutionary process, the MKI used open cell foam as the padding and so far the most comfortable when worn for extended periods of time. But its protective value tended to ...

Rags, for hose and braise I would recomend Klaus great stuff good prices. For shoes which you will certainly want I would go with either historic for honest to goodness turn shoes, or revival for the faux turnshoes like I have. They have a pretty sturdy sole. Course you could always make em yourself...

Aaron, due a border horseman portrayal. It's second half of the 16th century, doublet, maybe a jack of plates, venetian slops cavalry boots (what Gaston is wearing int he second picture he posted) a burgonet. A backsword and main gauche would be perfectly fitting. You could do a really nice irish hi...

Fought in a melee that became known in the retelling as the 'tower of doom'. It was at a Potrero War in San Diego. We had a Large number of haybails. Someone thought it would be cool to build a tower around a rather large tree in the middle of the battlefield. The walls were 5 or 6 haybails high and...

From the Baronial Championship archives. I made it to the finals only to discover that the finals are going to be 'jousting'. I put on a cardboard hobby horse and have to gallop down a fairly long style and take a swing (single sword) at my opponent. This lasts for about fifteen minutes with the MIC...

Here is a pic of the harness I fought in for a number of years. I am wearing a heavy leather belt, about 10" wide which covers my kidneys, short ribs and solar plexus. Over that I have a gambeson made with four layers of cotton batting. Any solid shot tended to to really sting, and on several occasi...
