I dont really have any patterns, what I did draft and draw ended up being trimmed repeatedly once everything was shaped and put together. Some of the parts were given to me by Eric, but they ended up being modified pretty heavily as well. Basically the top is an oval that is dished by about an inch,...

The rim is a cheat. It is cut and then welded to the top. It could have been done by folding but that would require heavier hot work than I am set up to do.

Aldwyn, If Erik makes the new kits he was tlaing about I will make you one.

Thanks Tim.

Heaume finished finally.

Ok mostly finished actually, the padding is a work in progress. As Sir Corby said to me when I asked how he suspended his, "These things balance differently" And I am still working out how to strap it without it mashing my nose flat, but I finally got the brass on. And overall I am happy with the fi...

It's actually the sleeve of the tunic worn under the mail. The hand is bare. the picture in AAoMK is a bit clearer. Eg would you have a larger version of that pic from the cloisters?

Yeah we had one of these around here. He turned into D.Sebastian. It took a while and there were a few high speed train wrecks in the process. But he turned out OK. Sometimes - time and example are the only way. As long as the individual isnt getting terminally frustrated in the process.

I am shooting for 1240 - 50. My main inspiration is this particular illustration. It could be tooled leather I suppose, but with the multiple lacing points/straps on the back of the leg I tend to think the foundation is a softer leather or material with something attached to it. Primus I think that given the clear depiction of mail on the rest of the Harness the artist is unlikel...

New Helmet

My new helmet, still a work in progress. Couple of things didnt work out the way I had envisioned - call them lessons learned, The back plate didnt get enough 'rake' so it hits the back of my gorget when I look up. Can be solved by flaring the back plate out I think. And the face wound up sort of as...

Penny Plate Armour?

Edge and Paddock mention "penny plate armour" in reference to this picture of a kneeling crusader. (AAoMK - cant seem to find my copy so I am not sure of the page.) I have not seen any other examples of this method of armouring aside from this illustration. Has anyone else? Or is this a fabrication ...

Gwen does that carbon dating hold for all of what we tend to think of as the Herjolfsnes garments? Such that we (the collective reenactment community) has been wrongly thinking ourselves properly dressed 14th century folk.
